Hi,

I would like to start a place where you can show your most ORIGINAL creatives works with vinyls.

no matter the car model is, what is important is JUST CREATION with vinyl and paint work.

Be kind to post cars made in NFS SHIFT ONLY, no other previous NFS cars

Be kind to avoid to post cars with one poor flame and 10 logos (or creations alike).

Avoid to post copy of existing cars... only original creations.

I think that the rules are clear, so now let s wait for some exciting cars.

my first advice would be to take pictures of your cars either with the sun on your back (often the best) or on your side (works fine too), but not in front of you (difficult to get clear picture).

second: When I download my pictures on my hard disk directly from MYNFS page, I got unexpected colors when I open them again later.
To avoid this problem, I open the picture on my browser, then I presss the PRT SCR key on my keyboard.
I open an empty picture in Paint or photoshop, I press the shortcut CTRL V, my picture appears in this window. I crop the picture to the needed area. If the colours are too dark, in photoshop I adjust them in >IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>LEVELS... and then I save the picture, et voila!!

hope it will help you to get back all the details that disappeared in your picture

Personnally, I would try to add some more big flames INSIDE of the ones you already have.
choose a slightly lighter green for these new flames. I think that it will give some more dynamic in the flames.

from this result, we can see what can be done next.

Concerning the rims, I am not sure that black ones is the best choice for your design. But it s difficult to know about it without trying.

Keep on working with vinyls, you will be soon amazed of what you can create with a bit of experience. I promise you.

First, you did not fell in this trap that all new beginners never avoid: the logo syndrom

you managed to keep it under control with very few and very discrete ones.


For the rest it s difficult to tell, since you re new to vinyls and you have to learn the tools and be used to them to be efficient ( but even more annoying: you have to learn to deal with the problems of the tools, thanks to EA that did not made a proper job with the vinyl part)

Keep on testing the vinyl parts, your first attempt is far above the average of the others first car.
I am really looking forward to seeing your next works.

the side with softpuppet is more interessant than the other one with Grip Ennemy.

I would try to keep some harmony between all the sides of your car, actually each side have very little to do with the other one. To say it clearly, repeat on one side, what stands on the other side.
Gold and black can be something very nice. You should not change the colors.

I would say that you started by the end. Before thinking using some logos or team names, I would advice you to work a bit with primitives. the name of these vinyls says it all.

Here is a vey simple way to add very much to you car. Look at the main lines of you car and use them as a frontier between 2 colors. For instance under this line everything will be totally Black and over this line everything remains gold.

Then see if you can add a stripe all over the car on the roof.

When everything is in place, you place your team logo. If put right, it will looks like less "floating".

But don t give up, you can make it very nice if you keep your hands away from logos at the start of your project.

for the blue part, I started with some BIG rounded flames in a dark blue color for the blue shadow.
then i put some big blue squares (slightly lighter blue) under the fames.

then i added my stars in an harmonious way.

to add some dynamic i put some of the stars both on the blue part and on the stripes.

and to finish, to add some dephth, I put some small gradients to simulate a shadow on the frontier of the stripes and the blue area.

if you re careful enough, you ll see what i mean on my pict.

here is my personnal trick to help with symetry.

Otherwise, I would say that you should get the same colors on both side of your car.
And I wonder if on both side of your car, you should not always have the number in front of the car always down.

but if it is your first car, you used some very advanced tricks for a beginner, impressive.

try to put either gold or black color on your glass in the PAINT garage (not vinyls garage)

concerning vinyls:
i am not sure that a space between the gradient and the black color is the best option. In my opinion, but I may be wrong of course, you will give a better feeling of speed if you connect your gradient vinyls directly to the black front and if you leave no space at all between all the gradient vinyls (connect sides and roof together ). To do so, you will surely need some more gradient vinyls.

I think that this simple thing will add much more to your car: In addition of what you already have, try to put some black square Vinyls ALL AROUND your car but fom the very bottom of the car to a maximum 10 cm high, just like I did on my S13, but do it on the back of your car too. I think that will transform your car very much too.

The 9 vinyl at the back seems wrong to me, it would maybe help if you make a kind of registration plate with your 9 inside and a flag for instance. check my cars, I made a lot of different work with registration plates. you will surely find something that can help you.

But what I find really positive and promising to increase your skills, it is that you already know that a project starts with primitives and that logos are not a goal in term of vinyl decoration. Lots of beginners only use them because of it, most of them produce boring and non creative layouts... or crappy results that should never be shown. Luckily for you, you do not

Another positive point for you: I think you understand that big flat colors can provide a good support to start a decoration. Of course there are many other different ways, but this one is a simple and efficient way to start a decoration.

I would say that in some few cars, you will know more about vinyl problems and vinyls potentials, and that will be then the start of "WOW project" so, don t give up and keep on trying, i will be very pleased to give you my advices.
I expect some good cars in 2 or 3 ones.

try this:
connect the 2 black stripes on each sides of the car with a black stripe of the same thickness going on the back of the car and then put your japanese flag in the middle of this back stripe.

i think that this small adjustment will add very much to your car.

On the top of the car , put a black stripe of the same thickness of the one of the side and finish it with a gradient . Connect the stripe with the one of the back of the car

The race flags size is very good. concerning the color of the race flag it will be even better if you try it so:

choose a >>>METALLIC<<< color (anyone) in the PAINT garage, then aplly exactly the same color on all the flag race vinyls on your car. You ll see the result on the sunny track

Just alil close up of one side, theres one small problem with that pic but its fixed now

I reckon all up the vinyls took me around 10-12 hours to make this whole car (obviously not all in one sitting lol)
with around 5-6 of those hours going into work you can barely see in the finished result the black widebody highlighting of the body lines on each side and door windows

so bad because they were much better than those made in SHIFT.

here is my trick to avoid your problem.

it is pretty simple indeed, but you have to go through this process to get the right picture on your HD.

1) open your picture in myNFS page.
2) press your "PRT SCR" key on your keyboard (this key makes a kind of "CTRL" "C" of your screen)
3) open Paint or photshop
4) create a new file in photoshop or paint. Obs! make it big enough if you use photoshop.
5) in the blank window, press the paste shortcut key combination: "CTRL" + "V"
6) Et voila, your picture is now displayed with right colors in your drawing program
7) eventually crop and adjust the colors and then you get what you want.

Hope my explanations are clear and easy enough.

now I am looking forward to seeing your first vinyl attempt with the correct colors... by the way, even if it looks basic and simple, it looks very nice too. let\s see what it becomes with the right colors now.

I'm really amazed at how well you guys have done with the primitive tools in Shift.

I'd like to try some stuff myself, but I'm using PC and there's a bug that doesn't allow colors and the quality of the vinyls is awful, especially on resizing or distorting them in any way. Even rotating is questionable.

They behave like GIF or BMP files.

I was actually looking to see if I could find them and add some of my own BMP files, but I couldn't find it.

I only have the simplest vinyls.

OH MY WORD!!! I just tried to do my first picture and discovered that even on a PC, you have to be connected to EA for it. My dorm blocks game servers and p2p, so there goes that option. If I don't like it, it gets binned and I start again. I have a S14 with a kind of Rising sun type thing over the rear arches, but in a pale purple/blue. Just need to figure out what else she needs.

I have a tip that may help you to use flames in an effective and easy way.

most of the people use flames as a whole thing for itself. And this use is very difficult to manage.
I made a rough to explain you an other way to use flames.

I use them to make a transition between 2 colors. This is simple and effective, specially if you do the same with the same colors on the top of the car too.

as far as i know, I think that you cannot mirror automatically what you do on one side of your car on the opposite side. this work have to be done manually, sorry for that.

But if vinyl work is hard for you, here is a little trick to help you positionning thing symetrically in a bit easier way.

On one side side of your car, put a basic racing flag on its maximum size. use a color a bit close to the one used to paint your car.
Then on the other side of your car, do EXACTLY the same with a flag that you flip before you place it.
Then you can use these flags as helping grids to place and scaLE your vinyls with a bit more accuracy.

When your project is finished, then just remove these to big flags.. et voila!

Voici un truc pour travailler les symetries sur les deux cotes de la voiture.

1) Placer un drapeau a damier en taille maximale sur un cote de la voiture. prendre une couleur proche de celle de la voiture pour le vinyl afin de le rendre assez discret pour travailler sans etre trop parasité visuellement.
2) Sur l autre face de la voiture, positionner EXACTEMENT le meme vinyl a la meme place. Ne pas oublier de lui appliquer un FLIP pour la symetrie parfaite.
3) Desormais ces drapeaux peuvent te servir de grille de repere pour reproduire plus aisement sur l autre cote ce que ce que tu fais sur un cote de la voiture.
4) une fois le projet terminé, il ne reste plus qu a supprimer les deux drapeaux a damier.

ce truc est tres pratique si tu as de gros problemes de reperes et de reproduction. en esperant que mes explications sont suffisamment claires et detaillees.

when you have some hard time with vinyls, to get started this easy trick is pretty useful.
And later when you get more used to vinyls, you may work further without the help of this grid.

I send my 2 last cars, and sadly, I have no more room for new cars in my garage

Basic stuff although I was really proud of some of it at the time, the only other work I'd ever seen was on the track and most of it was complete rubbish to be honest.

Then that guy pointed me to this thread and I was inspired by what I saw, you've done some amazing work here and I hate to think how many hours you've spent in the car garage. I knew I had to improve after seeing this, I love having a unique car to race online with and I wish more people took the time to do it.

I think that the layout you have made for this car is so sober, fits so good the shape of the car and is so elegant that it makes this car a very original and good looking one. That s a pity to forget this creation of yours. It s not everyone that can do much with very little, and you succeed to perform that with that Bugatti, you should now put it under the spotlights

to improve the look of your car, I would correct some few details.

1) make all the numbers similar.
Actually the spaces between the numbers are not the same.

2) I would be carefull with the combination of flames on 1 side and tribal on the hood. A it is actually, it s hard to find the link between these 2 flames elements taken from two different graphic "languages"

I am not sure that you GRIP ENEMY logos work the same good on both sides. On one side I find it quite OK, but on the other one, it fits not as good as on the other side. it s just a detail, but your car is so nice, that we have to focus on small details or adjustments if we want to improve it. luxus problem indeed

I would try to SKEW your "1"s to make them standing right, specially on the hood. I think that they will fit a bit better this way, and if you want to avoid the problem of the baseline alignement and the top alignement, just cover the very top and the very bottom of both of your numbers with square vinyls, this helps a lot sometimes.

But anyway, this just a fantastic car. I like the black line running along the whole car between the orange and the blue. That s quite an hard work to make this kind of stuff perfect, well done!

I almost can t wait for your next car.

I couldn't be bothered to spend any more time on it though, I'll finish it up properly when I have more patience with it.

I'm in the middle of a Zonda that I'm feeling the same way about, I haven't touched it for 3-4 days because it's so tedious to make, my design so far has over 150 vinyls and I've only roughly done the initial background colouring on 2 sides. I'm not even sure if I like it how it is or if I need to alter it, and after so much work altering it is a pain in the *.

Actually the blue background was the quickest thing to do, once you've found a vinyl that creates the kind of pattern you want it's just a matter of getting the colours right to make it look really nice. The entire blue section of the car only has 13 flame vinyls on top of massive blue squares. It also helps that I did it after the orange and black, this made it easier to position the flames just right.

I like what you've done with the Reventon but I think you should add some colour to your logos, this will bring your car alive. Elpickle that Audi is nice I think it's a big improvement you're getting the hang of it now, I didn't even notice the arrow off centre until Fatman pointed it out.

Recar Deeps I don't know what is missing from your vision of the car. Personally I would have made the central stripes on the bonnet/hood continue down the front, possibly over the roof and down the back too but definitely down the front. And I think I would have tried to have the numbers inside shurikens instead of circles to expand the ninja theme, I'm not sure if that would work though because of the hole in the middle of the shuriken, maybe with certain numbers it would be ok. I like the design though it's different and very sleek.

Well here is my Zonda, it has over 300 vinyls and it took about 12 hours. There's something not right about it but I'm sick of even looking at it now, I just can't be bothered to play with it anymore so it's finished, I'm still happy with it on the whole. Thanks for all the comments it's good to know people are enjoying my designs.

Bill since you have no space maybe you can repaint one of your early cars?

first, congratulations for your car. technically. it s very amazing specially when you can figure out how it s done.

What impress me the most indeed, it s this bristish flag on the dead angle of the camera in the garage. It must have been quite an headache to manage this detail, respect.

Your symmetry is well managed too. respect once again.

Now my next comment goes on my own taste indeed, so it s just how I feel the thing, but not an absolute truth. If you don t feel the same way like I would understand it very well.

I am not quite sure that the 2 yellow elements on the nose of your car are the best option, specially the drift infantry logo that compete with the line of the car instead of following them like all the rest on your car. Try to skew it on the other way for instance, it may help.

Concerning the graphic combination on the side of your car (BOD-11-DRIFT) I like the way you ve done that very much. I just wonder if yellow is actually the best choice, but once again... ...taste, taste, taste, and noone (including myself of course) can pretend to get the truth about tatse.

Otherwise, don t misunderstand me, your car is by far, the best vinyl made car I ve seen since I play with NFS.
I am just so frustrated that this one is not in my own garage
congratulation, I really waiting for your next creation.

Bill I have been thinking about some kind of flame work for my '71 Charger but I don't know how I will do it yet. There are also 4 other cars I use online: Evo IX; Civic Si; Golf GTI and Koenigsegg CCX.

I did make some changes to the Zonda. For the side logo I made the star light blue and darkened the yellow on the BOD and Drift:

The front logo I aligned the Drift to make it more symetrical with the numbers. They are actually in line with the big 'V' shape up the centre of the bonnet, which is hidden by the design. It was completely unintentional how they contradict the very front of the car but I like it.

The hood is a pearl, but the sides should be worked further to reach the quality of the hood.

The 1 number on the roof appears strange to me, but I may be wrong.

Waywardism, for your next car, I have a lead for you, I know that you could manage that pretty well:

A black Pearl car withy black glasses too.
A car with subtils nuances of dark yellow/orange used in some elegant and long flames. These flames would flow along the car before they smells into the back color of the car with gradients.

and then to make this car quite a strong one you could use this symbol and nothing else:

I'm planning on doing another flameworks on my '71 Charger. All highly detailed flame but not over the whole car, just coming from certain areas and have a seperate very simple design for the car. With the Evo it's like the whole car is on fire.

I've played around with pearl before, my GT-R originally had a very nice design covered with pearl but I eventually got bored of it. The AI really managed to mess up on the first turn of the Nordschleife.

I tried using the actual Stripes vinyl for a while, but they don't line up straight with the rest of the vehicle, so I just used the square vinyl everywhere except the stripes on the side-skirts; those are still the racing stripes.

Bill I prefer flames like that with shadows, same colour just a darker shade sitting slightly underneath and behind them. Other than that I think it's great, I like how you've done the front, I agonised for a long time what to with the front of my Evo and I'm not happy with the way it clashes with the rest of the car, yours blends nicely though. For the letters I mostly used some "1" "7" and "O" vinyls that I have skewed right and combined together.
And to make them look like perfectly aligned on top and at the bottom, I put a square vinyl with the same background color just at the very bottom and very top. This way it hides all the little alignment mistakes.
But not all the letters are that easy to draw at LITTLE scale. "G" "Q" "R" or "K" could be a nightmare to draw for instance.

Thanks for your comment's. Unfortunatly we don't get the chrome or iridescent paint in the vinyl's.
So I had to use gloss so I can match the plug's I used to shape the mouth,letter's & hide the flame's

Then I got into my favorite car of all time, the old school Vette. Since I had finally unlocked most of the vinyls that I cared about, I went after my other all time favorite....a flame paint job. Originally, I had planned to keep the basic paint Black, to accentuate the Flames, but after messing around with the colors, I ended up on the darker blue/purple range in a pearlescent tone. I like it much better than the pink Corvette I made for my daughters sake

That's because I have personally resized all that exceed 655 pixels in width.

However, I was too lazy to pay any attention to aspect ratios, I just made 'em all 16:9.

Exactly. I don't see any of my pics, and there aren't any pics in the "new pics of the day" tab either. Last time I took a photo, I never got the numerical count up for loading to the server either. Who do you have to complain to, to get anything done about this?
