Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

BOUNCING CAR PROBLEM, ERRADIC PHYSICS, and MISC GLITCHES THREAD

I have found a major problem with the game that many of you are probably starting to notice, and that is that on many of the higher level invitational events, as well as on many cars in general (regardless of event), there are bizarre bouncing issues or generally erradic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable. What will happen is that the car will start bouncing and won't stop, only getting worse and worse, bouncing you off track like hydraulics! The car will hit a small bump on the track and almost get stuck in a programming loop error or something.

As far as the erradic behavior of some of the other cars, like the E46M3 and EVO X, they do bizzare things like sliding forward with understeer and yet fishtailing at the same time, or spinning out erradically with normal brake usage, or bouncing excessively on shifts, etc. What's funny with this, and why it's so obvious that it's programming errors (or badly programmed model-specific physics) is that many of the cars in this game feel great and very spot on, while some feel horrendously bad and flat out poorly programmed.

The good news with this, however, is that these are clearly programming errors and that hopefully means patches will be in the works soon, making this game much more realistic and much more enjoyable. Also, EA... if you're listening, please fix the bug where the girl with the flag is clipping inside of the car at the start of the race, as well as the fact that when you hit the "a" button to skip the sequence, it selects the gear in the process. If you're playing with inverse shifting enabled, this puts you into reverse at the start of the race! If anyone else has any problems that need patching, please use this thread so that EA can find all of this info as quickly and efficiently as possible, thanks.

I am on the XBOX 360, so I am not sure if these problems are present on the PC version or not. My first inclination is to say that it's universal, but I have no idea. Oh, and add the replay camera to the list of problems. On certain tracks, it loses view of the car for insanely long periods of time. This is a great game, but my god does it have some MAJOR release bugs. They should've caught most of this stuff before the game was released. C'mon EA, I know that you guys wanted to release ASAP to get the jump on Forza 3, but these are some serious oversights...

I have the bouncing problem as well. i am on 360. Also on my corvette vs porsche race when I try to use the corvette it stays stuck at the finish line. Two more things, when i do settings such as gear ratios or oil cooler openings they never sava and always revert back to the defaults and the Corvette Z06 horsepower and torque numbers are swapped. It has 505hp and 470torque but is the other way around on the game. I hope they fix it soon because its a great game, one of the best so far imo

i am on the PC, and this is bollocks. i doubt most europeans have encountered this problem as us asians have the game since the 15th, but achieving driver level 17 is tough when even some invitational races are almost unplayable due to the level of suspension bounce.

for instance;

this is the bugatti veyron invitational race which you get circa level 10. hardly playable thanks to the bouncy suspension.

another irritating part is that i can never raise my works GT-R suspension ride height, creating this mess of a car.

yes, the bouncing car is a big problem... it is almost impossible for me to complete the Veyron and Carrera GT invitational race because of that, also the McLaren F1 does that at times during the F1 vs 722 battle...

also the keyboard controls should be less sensitive because even games like GRID are easily playable with keyboard while this game just practically forces you to use a wheel, and not everyone would want to buy it... and drifting is a nightmare... it's IMPOSSIBLE to keep a drift for longer than 4 seconds no matter how much you try... and getting that 4 second mark takes a lot of tries already

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I have not had the bouncy suspension yet because I have not tried out the top tiers yet. My problem is that no matter what i do I get massive oversteer so I have spent all of my money in career buying upgrades to try to solve the issue. I have come to realize there is no way to fix it with tuning and upgrades. I have every upgrade except works on my car, i tuned almost to MAX understeer to combat the oversteer, and even tuned down my turning radius. Nothing matters, while all this definitely improves the situation on about 50 percent of the track, the other 50 is spent flying all over the place, oversteering around bends that i clearly slowed down appropriately for. Even slow bends i oversteer like my tires are made of butter.

I REALLY hope they fix these control issues. I have played racing sims for a long long time now, and I cant recall being so disappointed in a release that has the potential to be A BLAST. I think the game is great. There are some decisions that were poorly made like the terrible livery editor, but the racing part of the game i love. I just cant get my car around the track.

Then i upgraded the full race exhaust, braking and suspesion and tires. Now the car bounces like its a mexican/spanish showoff for hydraulics every time i hit a bump on the track. You can especially notice it on Spa GP, that track is unplayable now.

With shocks stiffed its just alittle less bouncy, but still unplayable.

I'd like to get an EA spokesperson to say this is getting fixed.. because if not, this game is being returned.

Dont get me wrong.. its a good game so far, but this is destroying the game.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

My experience with issues has been pretty much the same as everyone's.

I'm on an Xbox360, Wheel, Pro setting, No assists, Cockpit view. I'm level 12, Precision dominant and I've unlocked Tier 4 stuff but working my way through the balance of the Tier 2 races.

So far I've been using a Tier 1 RX-8, Upgraded but not full on race modified; a Tier 2 Shelby GT500 completely race modded and a Tier 2 BMW M3 E92 fully race modded. Both the GT500 and the M3 have canned liveries on them.

Here are some of the things I've encountered.

Understeer/Oversteer: Its bad, its been beat to death here but the problem is real and its not simply a driver issue. Race level cars SHOULD be able to grip the track at race pace with good handling inputs. These cars do not. The effect can be diminished with tuning but not to an acceptable level.

Bouncing: I still haven't completed the Veyron race due to the pogo like handling of the car. I actually had to watch a reply as I thought an AI opponent was continually hitting me. Nope. My M3 does this on Spa as well (as mentioned above). Straight section of track, 6th gear flat out and you'd think I was in a rally race.

Visual Glitches:

The flag lady standing in my car the most obvious one. It happens at Spa and Willow Springs in both my GT500 and the M3. I guess racers really DO have magnetic personalities!

On a replay on Spa in my M3, the hood/bonnet whatever kept vanishing and reappearing. This was using the first of the Hankook canned liveries. Perfectly detailed engine sometimes and a nice logo'd hood other times. Did this the entire race. For the record, I had no front end damage on the car and the hood was in place when I finished the race.

In cockpit view, the rear mirror (not the sides) will sometimes completely pixelate the images its trying to display (NOT bluring) and then it will snap back to displaying the proper image again. I've only noticed this in my M3.

AI: The two main things I've noticed about the AI is that they will do incredibly stupid things such as turn into me on a straight stretch, run each other off track when not necessary, etc. If ANY competitor did that while in a race, they would be black flagged and removed from the race in a heartbeat. The other is the incredibley quick recovery time from going off track. When my car goes off track, its a major struggle to get back on track, get the car straightened out, etc. The AI can go off track, then back on track and be on my bumper within seconds.

Interface:

Tuning in general: It would be nice to be able to test our changes without having to go find a race, load everythingup only to find out we need to tweek some more and have to exit out and go all the way back to the tuning screen. Being able to access the tracks from the tuning section would be a big help.

Tuning in races: It would also be nice to be able to adjust our tune pre-race. Gear ratios need to be changed for different tracks, as do suspension settings etc.

I haven't seen a "practice mode" where I can just hit the track sans racing and learn some of the tracks I'm not familar with. I've only been in Career mode so its very possible I've just missed it is all.

Now all that aside I think that EA did get some things right. The vechicle sounds are really good. The cockpit view is good and I love that the interior changes as you upgrade it. The car models are good though there are a limited number of cars.

The tracks are modelled nicely and mostely accurate surface wise (we won't get back into car handling).

For me Shift is a stopover until FM3 hits the street and I'll be using it as I've been using Race Pro. Drive tracks and run in Cockpit view so I can hit the ground running when FM3 is out.

My thoughts only.

Cheers!

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

Hey All,

So I have read the majority of the posts, and I understand all of your frustrations. I have the PC version, and I have the shakes as well.

Did any of you stop to consider that it is built into the game on purpose? Do you suppose that running the Nurburgring at 180+ mph would not induce suspension hop?

Every time that this happens to me, it pretty much goes away as soon as I let off the throttle.

Also for the record, you should try it in real life, I have a'97 Firebird T/A, and when I am going 145 mph down the freeway, there are areas where the car gets into a rhythm of bouncing up and down. YES PEOPLE that means there is physics involved. Also for the physics lesson of the day, WOOD melts.

I am not saying that what you all are experiencing isn't undeniably frustrating, what I am saying is try running the race a bit different, and see if that changes the experience.

NO, these issues don't make the game unplayable, they make the game more technical. I have never raced an NFS game that plays like this, and I have played ALL of them. I remember playing F-1 a few years back, and I could never get the hang of how to play it. After running this game through Tier 4 so far, I may go and pick F-1 back up, and see if I can give it another go, because of the things I have learned here.

PEACE

PEACE
Are you retarded?

serious

I just cant get my car around the track.
do you brake while turning?
breaking while turning transfer all the energy into the front of the car. the front wheels can only so much one at a time.
try breaking early then cut into the apex.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I'm playing on the PS3 and I will say their are some great aspects to this game but some things clearly need to be fixed. These are the offical forums so I would hope that some staff trolls over this tread and post and can hopefully take the steps towards patching what has the possibility of awesomeness. Socom: Confrontation (which has nothing to do with EA) was totally unplayable when released, but since patch 1.5 (6 months later) it now is actually quite a sick online shooter, and is quite playable.

I have also on the PS3 experienced several of the above glitches mentioned. The not able to launch at the start of the invitational races is quite aggrivating.

The bouncing you experience (EX:Bugatti Video above) isn't a glitch, that is the sensitivity of a finely tuned machine emulated in the game. Their are many other bouncing/eratic behaviour that is quite apparenty coding malfunction like the Skyline clip above.

I find that if I have a steering upgrade, tune your steering to reflect how much steer you want.
Then go to options to adjust the settings of sensitivity for your device (controller, wheel, etc..). If you have a PC with windows (ESPECIALLY VISTA!) to get a 360 controller and the PC wireless receiver. Cheapest way to get everything you'd want in a PC controller with analog abilities and no cables.
Why, do you ask?
Because you have to baby the gas in order to even out the bounce in the car. Pressing the analog trigger as gas requires practise to control small presses for the length of the corner. This always solves my bounce issues.

The Graphics are freakin' awesome though. Love the trippy menu background, that should be an XMB theme! (Please EA?! )

My "works" E36 bounces a lot aswell. However, it only happens when I hit another car, come across a bump, or fall off the track (the dirt sidelines ie: laguna seca and the canyon track). It makes me wonder if it's really a glitch. I alos experience the girl standing in my car at the start. The biggest glitch I've seen is within the tuning. some races my M3 has 5 gears, If I restart, the car has 6 gears and plenty of acceleration like it's meant to be.

When I set the front and rearwing settings to maximum grip on my Porsche Cayman to try and keep it on the road(only tested if this would help on the bouncing.. no such luck), the Carrera GT only goes 220km/h on the long straigt after eau rouge in SPA.

And I too have the bouncy car problem. You can not drive the eau rouge with the Carrera GT at speed greater than 80 or you start skipping at the bottom of the corner and fly to the wall.. And I do mean fly. Never seen that happen in a driving game before..

How on earth could they release a game with this big of a problem? Didn't EA test it at all before it going on sale?

I'm glad I found this post. It was driving me nuts that Carrera GT race. Couldn't get up through Eau Rouge with any speed, AI had no problems, no bouncing. Oh, and please re-work the drift physics model while you guys are at it, because it's ridiculous.
Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I have the same bouncing problem at my PS3 and XBOX 360 !

Im a gaming professional with over 25 years of experience, and driving games are my

top priority so I know what Im talking about.

I can say I played them all and there is for sure a EXTREME BUG in need for speed shift,

wich makes the game NOT PLAYABLE .

There is no way to tune the problem away , the cars simply have a collision / suspencion bug.

And not... its not the delicate realistic sweet bounce wich you get in 10tacles GTR series... It a BIG UYGLY BUG !

And Im 100% sure that the developers and beta testers know about that problem, otherwise I

cant understand how someone could get 100% in this game.

Every car handles wrong, and as soon as you get a tuned suspension in hope to fix the handling its

getting ever worst.

In my opinion there are three scenarios :

1. The BUG is known within the developer team, but its a major games engine BUG and would cost to much mantime to get rid of, so they trowed this piece of crap on the market.

2. The BUG is know within the developer team, and is beeign worked on and will be fixed with the next patch wich will come within one week, or they will have a big problem . Im 100% sure that as soon as all peopel get to the tier 3 ingame they will be flaming and spaming the forums here...

3. I hope this scenario is the real one, as the two aboue would mean there is no QA at all at EA... So the third scenario is my anti piracy idea... maybe.. to stop leaks and ruin the day of people who download the game, there will be a special patch wich will need a online conection, It will fix just the copios of the game wich look oroginal to the systems ..

But STILL THERE IS A BIG BUG AND I DEMAND A PRESS INFO FROM EA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ?

Need for speed is getting worst every episode, and SHIFT has the potential to thur the situation around...

Just tested something on the PS3

I quick tunned the Works GT500 and did a T3 Time attack and the bounce was almost gone. Before the end of the first race I restarted the event and low and behold the bounce was back with a vegeance.

It seems that if you restart an event the car setup reverts to default but there's no way to confirm this as you can't access the tuning menu without quiting to the home menu.

I may however be clutching at straws.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

Ok guys I've got a short term fix while EA do their thing to get Shift fixed. I've found a few cars that I've had no trouble with. There's a very occasional bounce, but it seems to be more a realistic bounce (like when you go flying over a large rumble strip and get airborne lol) than a glitch. I'm only going off cars that I've actually driven in-game. I hope that it can be a temporary fix for you guys too =] the cars that drive properly are as follows:

Tier 1
- Nissan 200SX S14

Tier 2
- Mazda RX-7
- Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX
- Nissan Silvia S15
- Lotus Elise 111R

Tier 3
- Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
- Lotus Exige S
- Audi R8

Tier 4
- Pagani Zonda R

Now, I've tuned all of these except the Zonda R and have fortunately had no problems. I'm sure there are more that will be fine, and I will post them as I find them, but I just haven't yet. If you guys have problems with any of these cars, I can post the tuning details to see if that will help, I hope for now this can get you your Shift fix until EA sorts out the glitch.

Cheers!

Alright guys, I've had a breakthrough. The bouncing problem is not car-specific, nor is it track specific. Don't know what I'm on about?

Ok. Let's take the Porsche Carrera GT. Everyone has had massive problems with it on the Spa track. I have too. So needless to say, I was quite apprehensive about taking it into a tier 4 manufacturer's race against a Merc SLR. I found that on the Silverstone track, the Carrera GT is awesome. It didn't step a foot wrong (it did put the back end out a lot though lol) so I've come to the conclusion that it is car/track specific.

See how you guys go.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

First of all, chill out people. It's not like this bug can just be fixed with a magic wand. Seriously, grow up. Bugs happen, welcome to the real world, now post something productive or GTFO.

What I have to add here is a couple vids I recorded last night. The first is a run in my AE86 "superbounce" lol. It has the WORKS upgrade. I've actually tweaked it back and forth, and finally decided to try just resetting the advanced settings to default (shown at start of vid) and then run the track. It had a lot less grip, so it took some getting used to, but it didn't have the bounce issue as bad. You'll see in the vid there's a couple spots where it still bounces like crazy. I didn't even try to compete in this car.

Now, for the second vid, of a Silvia S15 I'd bought and upgraded with what money I'd made. It had all tier 2 upgrades, but no tuning from stock as purchased. it definitely does a lot less bounce, but you'll notice where I rewind is the two main points where it happens.

So my conclusion here, which goes to include the other bouncing issues people have experienced, including myself (bouncing off the starting line, etc), is that the game is somehow misrendering wheel hop. Whenever the car should be hoping, the chasis is refusing to flex, and you begin doing an odd little bounce, which gets compounded when you add in the springs, and the shocks can't possibly compensate.. This happens mostly in the corners, as you could see. But these others are having the same sort of issue, with the seeming lack of flex in the chasis, just whenever accelerating.

Hope this helps, guys.

1. I have had Cars Dissapear.

2. In the Xbox Live -> Driver Duels I list the wrong winner although it keeps the correct stats in my profile most of the time. I have won brackets and had it not advance me on two occassions and had it bump me back to the 1rst bracket on 1 occassion when i had won.

3. Been Stuck in walls on Several tracks after just scathing them

4. In Nuremburge while playing xbox live races, at the start of the race it pans cammeras around your car then places you in your car in your chosen view, however, mine cut to an external trackside view and I was forced to control the car as if i were controlling it from the various views when you watch a reply and would not let me change the view.

5. Flag Girls Standing in Car

6. On the heavily slanted tracks, such as the oval ones, the car is sliding before the race starts

7. On driver Duels if you each win a race and you go to tie breaker sometimes it gives the other car an immense lead before the start when its supposed to be nearly even

8. in several races in career mode when I have pressed "Y" to re-do the race it cuts to a replay and gives no controls. replay will just loop over and over again, forced to restart system

9. Afte much discussion with people online the reward system is finiky. for instance the most I can win and have always won online is 8000 for first, 6000 for second, 5000 for third. While I have spoke with some people that get 15k for first and others that get as much as 50k for first and some of them the same driver level as I even in the same race I got 1rst and got 8k while 2nd place took 35k. Something obviously wrong there.

10. Many visual glitches that dont seem to affect gameplay too, but not sure why it made it out the door as a final product, cars floating and dropping to the track when you first enter a race, when the race is over the car just crashes into things or sometimes just dissapears.

11. Gets stuck in joining match screen with the cars racing around the globe. would think its an internet connection issue, however the "B" button is there to press B to cancel and when you press B it just makes an audible noise and does nothing.

12. When the host is hosting a race online, a-lot of times they exit if they are not winning and generally right before i cross the finish line it pauses and says connection lost...etc and i get no points, particularly annoying in longer races. Do they have some kind of recourse against these users, take away points or count as a loss on them or something?? its getting really annoying.

13. why when a host leaves does it say lost connection to host and possibly EA and take you back to the home screen. It should automatically search for a new match using the criteria you used to search for previously or at least take you back to the screen where you make your final choice about what to search for, wether that be the quick race, custom race, or create race after having chosen ranked or unranked, its annoying having to go through the same stuff pretty much after every race.

Final Though: All Together; a very good looking(when it works) game but poorly put together. Its all about implementation. I would like an update to come out that fixes all the glitches and if not then I'd like my money back, prefereably i'd like to play it though(Fixed)

Regards,
Chris Walker
Orlando, Fl.

FIX IT EA!!!! I'M SURE IF YOU CAN RUSH THE GAME OUT IN ONE YEAR YOU CAN RUSH A PATCH OUT IN ONE WEEK!!!!!!! JUST FIX THE DAMN GLITCH....

I'm sick and tired of games manufacturers being lazy. Do they not realise that the gaming world would rather wait an extra week, fortnight, or even an extra month if it means the game they're waiting for will be more complete? If EA had kept NFS: Shift in the workshop for one more month, I'm sure none of us would be having the problems we're having right now. All they're doing by releasing a buggy version early is making lots more work for themselves. Look at Gran Turismo. GT games are NEVER rushed to stores to compete with similar games. Polyphony Digital have got the right idea - the world will wait until THEY are ready to bring the game out. At least we can all guarantee that when GT5 hits stores, there won't be any stupid bouncing problems, nor will grid girls ghost the cars. The modification system will be complete. The online play will be flawless.

Guys at EA. Take a leaf from Polyphony Digital's book. Look at how they do things. Don't rush. One of my favourite quotes goes "The race for quality has no finish line." it couldn't ring any more true right now.

I hope the next NFS won't be let down so badly by such silly mistakes.

360 version: I get bounching but only on certain tracks and only in certain spots where the road is bumpy. That said its still rather odd to be racing and see the AI cars move smoothly over the bumps while I go all sideways and sail into a wall.

The one thing I have noticed is that cars with the works added seem to handle far better then those that don't. It sorta makes sense in one respect but the difference is rather jarring to the point that it doesn't make a whole lotta sense. A fully tuned car sans the works is nigh impossible to handle sometimes. They fish tail and spin there tires at an alarming rate. I've literally had situations where I simply cannot get the power down to the ground at all and just spin and fish tail all over the place, and heven help you if you get a snake going. You'll never recover. Coversely a car with the works feels like butter. Sticks to the ground and is much easier to recover from mistakes with. Like I said it sorta makes sense but at this point its seems that adding the normal upgardes actually hurts your cars performance instead of making it better, and I typically pass through the normal upgrades as fast as possible to get to the works.

I have been reading & experiencing so many of the "issues" I guess a lot of people are -
Bouncing - Camaro SS (so far only) - thot it was a tuning issue that I might have done
Not Moving - Viper (so far only)
Paint/Vinyls - When I paint my cars, seems like it just puts over whatever I have on last car - doesn't really change much at all - & when I start a race & see my car - not really what I painted (body is kinda correct - but painted hood different & it looks black ???) - Vinyls don't show up at all - so can't do anything with them (I have all my graphics set to high - like other nfs titles, you don't see some affects unless you have things set high (mainly neon in ug2, etc).
Winnings - where are the cars you "win" when you achieve certain levels?
Online - can't get online at all with this game - I have an account (obviously) & even set for game to prompt me & put it in again & again - I know I'm connected when I try & even tried different "methods" - signed into EADM, signed into ea.com (which I know should make me NOT connect - but whatever)
I spent 2 days tring to get this dang game to install - dl had a corrupt file (group4.cab) & didn't want to read in my sata drive (installed an ide & it worked)
So far - I'm very disappointed with install & support is a joke (all they know how to do is read their "script") - but as for the gameplay - I am not - it is fun & easy to get points (quickraces) to advance.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

Yes, the bouncing sucks, and it is definitely one of the bugs. What I'm really frustrated with though is the fact that (I'm on Xbox 360) I can't choose how I want to change gear. This is ridiculous, since most people who play racing games, actually play other racing games. Personally, I use the right stick to change gear (up for up, down for down, logical right?) and I'm very used to it. The flagship racing game for Xbox is undoubtedly Forza, in which you can completely customise your controls. Even the last Need For Speed (Undercover) allowed me to have the configuration I wanted. So why doesn't this game?

Maybe I'd have a chance to get frustrated with the bouncing, if I wasn't so focused on the fact that someone, somewhere, has decided which buttons I would like to play with and subsequently I'm mashing the A and X buttons trying to find the right gear.

It's as bad as not being able to invert the Y-axis in games where you might want to, say, look up and down.

Basic stuff guys, please fix it. And the bouncing.

PEACE
U are absolutely right about the bumps in real life that can make the car loose stability, but the issue with this in Shift is that it completely overshoots the laws of physics and what racing should be about. And i'm 99,9% sure it wasn't on purpose, it's just poor programming.

I just cant get my car around the track.
do you brake while turning?
breaking while turning transfer all the energy into the front of the car. the front wheels can only so much one at a time.
try breaking early then cut into the apex.
T1no u r quite the professional race driver aren't u? Of course u r not supposed to brake heavy in the middle of the turn because u get understear or overstear (depending on brake distribution front-rear) but a slight touch of the break can help keep the car under control while accelerating.
Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

Well, I give up; this junk's getting traded in tomorrow. I've given ample time for a patch, but the truth of the matter is that even if a patch comes out to fix the bouncing issues, the game still sucks. The physics models for many of the cars are BS, and that will most likely never change. Cars like the EVO X oversteer while understeering off the track, and the E46 M3 drifts no matter what you do and has no realistic level of grip. The drifting game modes are terrible as well, using a different and horrendously unrealistic physics model that feels totally unnatural and requires you to re-learn how to play the game. The cars behave totally different to how they do in the rest of the game, and not in the respect that drift cars are set up different than track cars are, but in the respect that they don't even behave like a car would, EVER. There is no normal sense of traction, the tires lose traction even from light steering inputs when you're just positioning the car before you want to initiate the drift... the list goes on and on. This game sucks. EA, Slightly Mad, either make an arcade game, or make a sim, but don't try to mix them; it doesn't work. If you're going to make a sim, then make it realistic on all fronts and do it right, don't bastardize it by making junk like this. NFS Shift = FAIL.

To whom-ever it may concern in EA:

Dear Sirs,

I've been antecipating highly the release of need for speed shift. As such, I've bought it on the release day in Portugal - last Friday, the 18th September. Over the weekend I've experienced the majority of the "bugs" and "glitches" already reported by other people (I have the PS3 version). Such as I expect to be contacted by your technical support for a presentation of a conclusive solution to all the mentioned issues or else, as stated by law, I demand full refund of the €69,99 euros I've spent, on the moment I return the game to the address you indicate.

Thank you

Put the game back on and was playing carreer because of all the online issues.

In tier III Manufacturer races, the corvette Z06 at Donington National event i cant move. its like my transmission is broke, it will shift through the gears and it even acts like the clutch is grabbing but then the rpms drop and it just revs and catches and revs and catches over and over again. like i'm driving a billion pound car with a 400HP motor. I think thats the problem, it seems to move the car ever so slightly, so i think maybe the cars mass is just insanely to high, someone made a error entering it in or something on the back end.
I'm the prowd owner of a copy of need for speed: shift for the ps3, it's really a great game with a lot of potential, till the tier 3 manufacture competition! The 911 GT2 race at london river bounces off the track, the SL65 AMG race at silverstone is not that bad, but if not driven PEERFECTLY! ..the mercedes will bounce FAR off the track.. The Exige race at glendale is extreme, it bounces and gets worse and worse, like you "introduction" said.. But the corvette z06 race at donington won't even drive at all, it's just standing there not being able to move at all, do the car miss a differential or something? hehe.. no, but serious.. UPDATE OUR GAMES PLEASE!!! Hurry EA, I wanna keep playing this game, but it's kinda hard when the cars don't work..
A few other minor problems, the vinyls won't stay the way they should, and the sound disappear sometimes.. The G25 racing wheel sometimes miss ALL force feedback, which is incredibly anoying!
Give ous a bug fix or I'll demand a refund.

Oh, and by the way, could you throw in some customization DLC's on playstation store? many players would appreciate this..

Thanks..

Just to add. Viper in Ford GT vs Viper doesn't move nor does the Z06 Corvette in the manufacturer race. this is PC version.
As for the bouncing I have all my suspension turned down to soft and it removes some of it. I also feel the lateral movement, or 'weight' is too severe. In my opinion there is not enough force on the Z axis helping to put gravity onto the cars. AI cars seem fine and are unaffected by suspension or lack of weight.
Also, the Skyline R34 when fully tuned with Works parts does not have an animated dashboard digital rev counter, nor does the fully tuned Works RX-8.

Apart from that all's fine. It looks great on PC and I am enjoying it, but it needs patching asap.

It's not the car, I've tried all settings possible.. it still bounces off the track.. I know a lot when it comes to cars, it is definately not the car's fault.. We all need a bug fix, a huge one the kind that needs an entire day to download and install

Nubishdubishone I've got the ps3 system, there's not any overheating..
Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I've got the PS3 version with a Logitech G25 and I've got at least 3 repeatable physics 'bugs' that I am 100% sure exist...

1. I have a Z06 Corvette with the works package...I made it to the NFS Live World tour and in the World Series (the second one) I CANNOT for the live of me complete a lap on the first track. I am not a tuner, I just like the default settings and I like to race, but I have tried messing with the suspension and ride height, and every time I get up to speed and go through a corner I get some sort of weird bounce as though there is a huge bump in the track and it throws me off the track. This is useless. I've been playing this game for a week straight to get here and now I can't finish the World Tour for anything.

2. On this same race with my Z06, whenever I launch on the very first race, I can barely get past the next car that is in front of me before the first turn...If I pause the game and hit restart race....I can launch EXACTLY the same way...and I will fly past the next car and easily past the next 7 cars or so and make into second before the first turn...this is repeatable every time until I quit racing and come back..then I start with a slow launch again. Maybe it's the flag girl that is ghosting my car slowing me down on the first launch???

3. If I use my Pagani Zonda R on the Tier 4 Supercar Restricted Series on the "Race at Dakota Tri-Oval", I cannot for the LIFE of me make an entire lap at speed (with the line green the entire time) without hitting the wall. The car will start to bounce and then there I go flying against the wall while the other cars fly by.

As others have stated, I also suffer from the flag girl in the middle of the car bug and the other common bouncing problems, like the Carrerra GT at Spa GP problems.

This absolutely pathetic...but I think the worst part is that IGN, Gamespot and ALL the other review sites didn't mention this...I guess they are becoming like the magazines and depend on the ad revenue so they can't afford to call something this anticipated CRAP.

I can tell you one thing...they are lucky they got this garbage out before GT5 because I will never waste my time on another NFS title again. HURRY UP GT5.

It all seems to be somewhat car, power, and track specific, because Car A might have fewer problems at Track X than Car B, and Car C might drive much better on Track Y than on Track Z.

For example, I bought an E46 M3 and upgraded it to Works level, and I then tried to drive it at Spa. Just keeping the car on the track proved to be a big challenge. I tried a stock Cayman S instead, also Tier 2, and it drove much better. I had to lift significantly at Eau Rouge, but I was faster on the rest of the track in this car than with the more powerful M3. Next car I tried was an E92 M3 upgraded with all Level II components and it was somewhere between the Works E46 M3 and the stock Cayman S.

But the most interesting car I've driven there has been the Porsche Carrera GT that I drove at an Invitation Event, if I remember correctly. The car worked beautifully through most of the corners, Eau Rouge being the big exception. At speed, you can feel the car bottoming out before launching itself at the inside retaining wall. Slowing down and coasting through the corner, making for less spring compression, the car has a tendency to spin sideways. It ruins the lap either way.

Another track that comes to mind is Ambush Canyon. If Spa were anything to go by, one would think that the Caymen S would be the best car for the job here. It doesn't drive too badly, perhaps even better than at Spa, but there are two or three bumps on the track where the car will actually lift off and start oscillating wildly upon landing again. Meanwhile, a stock Lamborghini Reventon, despite being much more powerful, can handle the bumps and the rest of the track better, the opposite of what is true for Spa.

A stock Lamborghini Murcielago at Laguna Seca and I can't really have any complaints at all.

Here are some other observations...

The AI cars are spared. Sure, they'll do some extremely stupid things at times, but if you're next to an AI car and hit a bump at the same speed at the same time, guess which one of you is going to turn into a rubber ball?

Automatic transmission seems worse than manual. When the transmission up shifts in automatic mode, the car will begin bouncing when going from N to the next highest gear. It's particularly bad when going from 2nd to 3rd gear. When the car loses traction, like during a slide, the transmission will sometimes down shift one or two gears, initiating the hopping again, and then, upon shifting back up during acceleration, make the bounce even worse. On the other hand, in manual mode, the car will barely ever bounce, regardless of the gear and of the shift point.

Fine tuning the suspension can alleviate the problems slightly. The default settings are the softest possible. Stiffening certain settings helps somewhat, but I have yet to discover any settings that will make the handling consistent and bring the oscillations to a reasonable level.

Fine tuning the controller settings can alleviate the problems slightly. I searched around this forum and found some good settings for things like the steering dead spot and the steering and acceleration/braking sensitivity. It is now easier to keep the car under control and it does not want to saw from side to side quite as much.

Inconsistent and unpredictable handling is an issue in addition to the bouncing. It is only natural that a setup will affect how a car behaves braking into a corner and accelerating out. But I have yet to encounter a setup in any other game that can change the handling of the car from one part of a corner to the next and from one turn to the next, all on the same track on the same lap.

It's really a shame. I had high hopes even before the release and now, after having played for a few days, I think NFS Shift has great potential. But these issues really get in the way and turn the game from being great to being average.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable
I've noticed that too.. it's rather bizarre really. On the first launch it feels like I'm driving a stock car and only after a restart does the engineupgrades kick in.

But has anyone noticed the "slow-motion" bug? Sometimes the game feels like it slows down. I first noticed it on teh Road to America tracks back straight. After exiting the long righthand corner, the engine doesen't rev as quickly and the car seems to go really slowly. Until just before the next tight righthander where everything comes back to normal. Since the I've noticed this on many almost all tracks.

And to add to the bouncing problem: Few tracks have some slighltly exaggerated bumps. One is on the London Mile circuit. Right after the first bridge where the tracks becomes really narrow. Drive to that spot flat out on a works Z06 and see tarmac through your window. The rear end takes and interesting take on gravity at that point. The bump in probably desinged to be "normal" but the other physics-engine problems make it an undrivable spot. Have to brake about 100 meters before the actual brakingpoint or it's sky-road-sky-road-wall for me.

The same can be said about a bump in the main straight of Road to America track. This one can be found atleast in the Hot Lap in Koenigsegg invitational right where there's a hole for the pit exit. Flat out to that spot and you find yourself flying 270km/h with very little altitude right over the brakingspot.. I'd understand if this was Flight Simulator and the road a runway but this is riddiculous.

This game can be so aggravating sometimes but when it's not, it's actually quite good, I think. With a patch it could even be the next best NFS after Porsche unleashed.. and the original.. and original SE. You know, the ones that actually tried to make a car handle like a car. Not this for wheel drift s*it that this game has. Which is very obvious in the second video that GTP_DutchCustom posted, where the BMW drives around the first lefthander. I mean since when does a racecar slide through every corner leaving four black lines behind. It's laughable..

NFS should go back to it's origins and start making games that are more simulations than arcade. If I wanted an arcade I'd go and play sega rally or something like that.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I do believe the problem is in the way the cars share suspension settings. The bouncing you guys ar eseeing is common place in all gMotor/ISI engine based games with flawed suspension and physics data being fed to the game engine.

As an example, if you like Car A in rFactor, you then copy/paste the physics/suspension files to Car B that you want to behave like Car A - but instead of actually having a physics editor and lots of test time, you just cut and paste chassis dimension and physics values and suspension values to the [sections] of the ini files, yo uget a car that bounces/jumps/hops and otherwise goes bizerk.

I understand that Shift is based on the gMotor2 engine, and as such think that EA/SMS screwed th epooch big time in the way they handle modded cars that share internal setup files.

I have no tyet experienced any of the bouncing issues people have spoken of, even the Veyron Invetaitonal, but that might be because I only have 1 other car, a Stage III Cosworth that I have no tmade any custom tunign changes to.

I believe EA/SMS are not reading the correct files once you make tuning/setup changes and are creating these handling aborations.

Having created custom cars for rFactor from scratch with physics tools, I know it is easy to create a bouncing piece of crap, but not so easy to create a correctly handling car.

Either way, EA/SMS need to fix this as it really dtreacts from an otherwise good game.

And even on the higher tiers, it's mostly noticable on certain combinations of cars/tracks (Spa being a *very* good example). I also noticed that the problems become progessively worse during the course of a race. 1st lap is usually doable, but 2nd lap and following the problems get worse and worse.

I personally suspect the same as you: the data being fed to the engine is off/flawed. The engine itself appears to be really good, it models weight shifting and car behaviour very nicely. That's why I keep coming back to this game. Most people I know from the Gran Turismo and Forza community like this game very much, but are put off by these bugs/glitches. Without the bugs, Shift could easily be one of the best racing games to come out this year.

This game is at Beta phase at best and should not have been released yet, it's a shoddy bit of money grabbing by EA, one in which they are trying to get the Forza / GT5 crowd on board before those games are released. Set oversteer on my Lambo and suddenly my Porsche's back end is ridiculously twitchy.
Invisible cars in the "My Cars" area. e.g. my Porsche suddenly wasn't viewable.
Vinyls that disappear, I designed a nice setup on my Skyline, saved it, the next time i viewed it, it was plain white, fully deleting my whole setup.
Game freezing.
Online freezing.
Getting stuck on the load screen.
No vehicle deformation at all.
Sound issues.
Opposing cars are like the opposite poles on a magnet, go near them and your car flies off in a random direction. EA, I will never buy another one of your products ever again, and you can take that to the bank. If they want the bad publicity, they can have it.

It's a crying shame because this game could have been so good.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I've discovered a new problem; well to me at least anyway.

I changed my tuning settings on my Lamborghini Merchialago to have faster acceleration and less top end, raced with it, didn't like it, changed it back to default settings by pressing L3 and now my once uber fast, works'd Lambo will not go above a top speed of 153 mph. 5th and 6th gear are virtually non existent, there is no power in them at all and my car is going so slow that if I brake when the racing line guide turns red, i come to a halt about 20 yards short of the corner. I've tried averything from re-booting my system, to changing the settings on other cars in the hope the default settings return to my Lambo. No joy. And for the record, the settings are showing as default but on the track, the car is driving as if the gearing is all over the place. When I first tuned my car up to works, it used to easily keep up with and beat Zonda's, now they are 15-20 seconds in front after the first lap of Road America (I think that's what the track is called). I'm devestated, I spent hours designing a vinyl setup for it and now I can't race with it.

This piece of shift just get's worse and worse. There are so many problems, I can't even see half of them being sorted with a patch. I'm discovering new bugs on virtually a daily basis.

EA, you have treated your customers appallingly. We are paying customers and do not appreciate being treated like Beta testers. It's shocking that a company of your stature and reputation has let their customers down so badly.

I DO NOT BELIEVE FOR ONE SECOND THAT THIS WAS RELEASED WITH THE GOOD INTENTION OF IT BEING COMPLETE. IT WAS PUT ON THE SHELVES IN THE FULL AND COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE OF BEING UNFINISHED.

Bad times.

I will now be seriously considering my buying habits and will be looking to avoid all EA releases unless something is done swiftly. By that I mean a complete fix or refund coupled with an apology.

Xbox 360-

Ok so I just went out n bought this game last night. I have been very loyal to the NFS series since the PS1 games wayyy back. And also I am extremely familiar with racing sims like GT. So when I heard about shift I was real excited. But after playing shift for a few hours I became more and more and more frustrated with almost every aspect of the game. The game is sooo incomplete!!!! As I came across more and more glitches, I wondered if others were having similar issues. so i came here and sure enough these problems are very common.

The bouncing issue is what gets at me the most. I got fed up at the Bugatti invitational (which BTW asks for a perfect lap) and also the McLaren F1 vs. 722. The cars are just completely undrivable. The bouncing is just one complaint I have about the game, and if i went on with all of my complaints, there wouldnt be enough room on this page.

Oh and what happened to the controlls for NFS?? what happened to "right-stick shifting"???? anyone else want that back?

Earlier this week, I commented that I was also experiencing problems with the game. I couldn't race the Carrera GT at Spa because of the bouncing issues. I just turned on my PS3 and was prompted to download an update for the game v 1.01. I just played it and it appears the bouncing issues have been corrected. Even the issue with the Corvette not moving has been fixed. I'll keep my fingers crossed but it looks like EA did correct the bugs we discovered. I'll play some more to make sure the problems are gone. PC and 360 users, I would assume your patches will be coming.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I have a PS3-60GB model, updated to FW 3.01, and a Logitech G25 wheel.

I have never seen any framerate issues in my gameplay, I actually think they are very fluid.

I have however encountered nightmare handling as I started to play in Tier3, where I quickly sold my previous Mitsubishi car to buy a Porche911 GT2, and I knew there had to be a bug in the game as I first drove it in the European Series, mainly the Willow Spring twisty track. The car had a mind of its own. I thought I was driving a rapper's car with the bling shocks, or Christine had a vengeance or something. or LOL, a pun on words, "a mad Porche Unleashed!" I believe some of the cars are completely undriveable.

After the patch 1.01 update, I went back to my car to unlock some "advanced tuning" and noticed that ALL the settings were set to the left side at 0 !! I listened to the audio commentary "tips" for each one, and logically adjusted bit by bit to enter corners better, since this was a twisty track mainly driveable in second gear.

LOL, as soon as I hit my pedal to the plastic, the car was behaving WORSE than before!! Jumping like it had ants in its pants, I quickly aborted.

I sold the porche, got a ton of money back, and bought the affordable $300,000 Lamborghini, ,spent some money on brakes and tires, and went back to the same track. I did not check nor adjust any tuning. The car drove much better, handling was better, I just needed to know the track at this point, and raced in my Lambo for the next 2 hours, inlocking events as I came in first "ok I'm driving on easy mode with line assist", just learning the tracks and mechanics of this game.

I still think this is an impressive game, but plagued with glitches, hoping EA can restore some faith in their customers , and work some extra coming days and months to release many many patches, until it feels adequately right.

-Sincerely, a NFS fan.
P.S, make your next NFS purely open Point to Point a-la-Highstakes / porche unleashed.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable
I would really appreciate someone looking into the steering issues that arise with using a ps2 type controller on the PC.

I have a Logitech Rumble Pad 2 and when i try to take a corner, despite lots of adjustments both in game and in os, the car just wants to kick out the rear. Turning is so hard! it just makes me want to give up on the game.

PLEASE HELP
I have the pad to and the problem is with the accelerator not being progressive and one cure is to set traction control according to the power of the car to Low or High and give gas gently while u exit the corner - meaning not to early and if u feel the car loosing traction leave the button pressing it again and correcting in the opposite direction of the corner with the steering. Be careful though to not overdo it or u will loose the racing line or go off track all together. I think the secret is breaking at the right moment and for long enough that u don't loose to much speed but also don't miss the apex of the corner and carry enough speed trough in order to have a good lap time. A solution u can try is to set the right analog stick for accelerating and breaking as it is progressive. For me though it's to weird to work and the wheel dose a much better job, but u can give it a try maybe it will work for u.

I also have a wheel with pedals and it's a little bit better with those as u can keep the throttle and brake at constant levels and accelerate and break progressive, but some cars are still a handful because of the weird programming bugs in regards to how the suspension reacts and many other things that u can find on this forum and around the net. Wait for the patch (if it ever comes) and in the meantime practice with less powerful cars

I cannot - for the life of me - understand why EA would do such a thing...why would they lower themselves to release a game that was clearly NOT ready to be released? I just can't understand why they would destroy their reputation just to bring out a (read: incomplete) game before their competitors?

*sigh* it's sad really. I'm sorry to hear that EA is so consumed by the competition that they feel they can no longer make quality products for the general public. After all, it is what they're paid for, why in the world would they want to make us happy?

Thanks EA, due to the sheer magnitude of your uncaring thoughtlessness, you've lost a lifelong dedicated customer. I hope that someone has the balls within the company to bring it back to its feet...or at the very least - its knees.

I am on the PC version of this game and have noticed the "bouncing" car(s). As it seems to only happen with certain vehicles, I have also noticed that if you adjust the suspension, it does eleviate some of the problem, not all. But, It does make it MORE playable. As for the clipping issue with the girl, and the shift issue, I have not noticed that on the PC game. One thing I do know, is that for some odd reason, I am unable to drive the Z06 vette, all it does is sit there and rev the engine...and yes, I am in gear when I start, no matter what I do, it just wont GO! Also everytime i see the comercial on tv for this game i just wanted to puke. and i dont blame the reviewers giving it a good score cuz they prolly only played thru the first few stages and i admit tier 1 plus some of tier 2 was freakin great but the rest of it just degenerates into a * storm. and i bet Lambo, Bugatti, and most of these exotic car companies wouldnt give EA another endorsement to put their cars in the game!!! actually if i were Bugatti i would sue EA for false advertisement lol do you really think a factory built Bugatti would fail at making a lap around spa??

Sitting here with this game, had it for four days now and just tried driving the carrera GT invitational event. At first I thought this was something with the tuning, but no way. EA needs to fix this problem really fast, or I would never buy a EA title again. And as for everyone who feels the need to make a reply about real life physics and that the game cars bouncing mimics that....well, get a drivers license, and actually try out a tuned car or a supercar for yourself. There is NOTHING realistic about these bouncing cars. By the way, I´m on a PS3 system.

Hi all,
i'm glad to read that i'm not the only one who is having the bounce problem. But i'm really angry that in these 10 pages of posts NO Developer is giving any statement about this issue!

Dear developers, is it possible that there was no Beta-Teting on this game ?

Here is a list of what i like to see fixed or improved:

1: Driving Physics needs to be updated (Bouncing etc.)
2: Customizeable Controls, it is impossible to change the Controls for the G25!
3: The tuning must be updated with "Test your Settings", "Save and Load Settings" and "Tuning while driving".
4: Improve the Damage System. When you set the Damage to Full there must be a noticeable damage to the car. I smashed a car into a wall with over 200mph and i still can drive that thing. This is NOT realistic!
5: Please Increse the possebilities for customizing the cars (Add Country Flags, Fonts etc.)

I could go on and on with this list but i'm getting tired of repeating things that are already said by others. I think it would be a great thing if you play Forza2 and GT-Prologue, these games are real driving simulators! If NFS:Shift wants to be a real competitor to other games major changes are needed. Please don't get me wrong, but by the time i was playing the Bugatti Veron race on the Nordschleife i was very close to throwing my controller against the wall. I payed nearly 70€ (102$) for a game that is not finished. So i insist on having a patch in a short time!

P.S.: Sorry for possible bad english, it is not my native language.

Would it really be so hard for just one person from the company to give us a little bit of hope? Let us know that they're at least working on it? It's like when you know something is wrong with your car, it feels a lot worse when you don't know what's causing it, but when you do, you can work to fix it. Well there's definitely something wrong with this car. We all know for sure what it is, but there is - as far as we know - NOTHING being done to fix it. As a tradesman with not overly much free-time, I can still find a minute to add a post to the forum, why is it so difficult for someone who spends their whole day on a computer to do the same thing?

This is some poor form.
give the name of one store that will allow returns on opened video games. gamestop is willing to pay me $25 for a trade in, bestbuy absolutely refuses a return.
First step is to try and get a refund, explaing the situation, and you may find a resaonable person.

If you purchased with a credit card, then file a dispute to reverse the charge, then you have more time than the normal 30 days to get this settled. You generally have 30 days or more after receiving your first bill with that charge to file a dispute.

Another strategy is to repeatedly exchange the game, in hope that a future batch of DVD's won't have the problem you experience now. If they forget to open the exchanged product, then take that back for a refund, since it's no longer "opened" software (this is technically good enough for Best Buy) If they complain about this, point out the fact that EA doesn't offer a refund, only to return a sealed game for an opened one. The only difference is you got a sealed box from from the store instead of EA, but the outcome is the same, you exchanged an open copy for a sealed on in order to return the defective product.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

Wanted to Post here to add to the thread for all of our, and EA's benefit.

I started the game, and have a RX-8. I am at level 12 or 13 Driver wise, Tier Three is unlocked. I have ONLy done the Tier one mods, and the weight reduction/race mods.

I have also ONLY done the tier one races and invitationals.

The Viper/Ford GT race.. the Viper I chose would skitter bouncing off the track in corners, and at low speed it was still doing it.

THe RX-8 was a complete challenge on fast lane changes, and I ended up semi defeating the bounce by letting it go wide and glance off a wall on some of the level 1 races. On the time trials at the end of level one, I am UNABLE to complete the race.
I can make a VERY fast lap for the first lap, but as time progresses the car becomes less and less controlable. The bounce is a rocking from rocker panel to rocker panel bounce, that will induce a spin, and or the car to lift off and slam the fence at the bottom of the track.
This lack of controlability gets worse as the race progresses to the point that it is impossible to drive the streights.

Yes im waiting for a patch. Sadly this will be the last NFS game I buy.
It simply isnt worth the 50 bucks to buy a game that is going to be half baked out of the box.
I remember one of the former NFS games had a nice problem with the rivals blasting past you at the last levels. in cars that were horribly lower classed than yours.
The mindset of what is being done as company policy is absurd. I thought mistakenly this would a GRID style game with upgrades and all the things we wanted for GRID to have.... Sadly it is so poorly finished at this point its unplayable.

SPiN Racing

Just an update on my earlier post. Since i've gotten the word out about how this game is incomplete, there's now 3 full boxes of NFS shift for ps3, 2 boxes for 360, and like 2 boxes for pc just chilling in the warehouse at my work. I've stopped customers from buying this game by showing them the youtube postings and this forum. EA raped me for $60, I've gotten them back for quite a lot more and I will not sell this game to any of my customers until a fix is released.

Holy crap...I thought it was just my sucky driving skills! I knew there was something crazy going on...I've progressed far enough to open up the Bugatti Veyron Invitational, and it's an absolute nightmare to play. I thought it was just me! Only now as I changed the view to the external camera view do I see why it's so freakin' difficult!

And what's worse, I was able to get in front (I played really, really dirty), get 1st, and then when I get to the results screen, it resets back to the PS3 XMB! WHAT THE F? I must have played that race like all night last night.

This is the third or fourth time the reset thing has happened and it's absolutely infuriating! And they want me to reset my save so it will fix the problem? YEAH right.

This is really a mess, EA. Fix it...this shouldn't be happening on a CONSOLE game. I knew I should have just bought it for the PC. Then at least I'd be used to it.

Well after the fourth time of restarting my game (PS3) I found that I can actually use the Viper in the 'Invitational Event' and I know that all the other races will be fine now. No more bouncing finally.
The solution was to NOT do any tuning what-so-ever (which is a bummer) but honestly, the tuning in these games does absolute stuff all for your drving. If anything, it made my car worse to drive. I found the default settings in the advanced tuning work better but like I said, don't tune and you won't bounce.
All in all, I do enjoy this game but I have no choice to re-think future purchases with EA games.

I am on Xbox 360 and have noticed all of these traits.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I might know the Cause of why this is happening. but I'm not sure.

I've only noticed this when suddenly releasing my throttle and then re-applying it. it also happends when one goes off track into sand/grass and gives full throttle. (ehm release the throttle to have it stop bouncing).

This gets more of a problem when you upgrade the car, cause you increase the performance of it so much that as in real life: if ya press full throttle and then release it quickly and then apply it quickly, your car will also start to bounce. (maybe you should try it sometimes. If ya accellerate the front of car will become higher than what it was, and same goes for braking, your front of car will drop in height. if you repeat the whole process of full throttle-brake-full throttle-brake the car will start bouncing also.)

Now I don't know why it starts to bounce when one goes off the track (sand/grass and stuff) but it could be because of the handling settings of the car.

example: If the rebound rate of springs is high, but springs are also set on soft. this could be making the bouncing worse than the normal setup of the car.

OR atleast this is what I think is why cars bounce.

First of all, bump is spring compression and rebound is spring extension.

Bump and Rebound settings refer to damping of the spring oscillation.

I think it helps to have rather more (stiff) rebound damping than bump damping.

So, set the rebound to a couple of notches stiffer than the bump setting.

Also tailor the settings based on the position of the engine. On a front engine car the front settings need to be (could be) stiffer than the rear settings by a notch or two. For a mid engine car it might be best to have symmetrical front/rear settings unless you are after a certain kind of handling as when modifying the oversteer.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

Hi,

May I make a couple of suggestions... (I apologise ,in advance, if they have already been said before).
For those that are suffering "the bounce":-

1Q: Are you using a force feedback controller or not?
2Q: Have you ever driven a REAL high performance vehicle, at high speed, on a proper race track?

The reason I ask is, I have a theory that:

1A: If you are NOT using a force feedback controller, you are unable to "feel" the bounces, and without this sensory experience the visual bouncing seems odd, however WITH a force feedback controller your brain "understands" the visual bouncing is normal - as it goes with the feel of the steering, and it makes sense to your brain.
2A: Driving most high performance vehicles (on a race track) especially at very high speed, you DO get this phenomenom occurring. It can be due to suspension settings being out for that particular track surface, uneven track, and when cornering due to LSD effect and "axle tramp", and a whole lot of terribly technical reasons.

For those of you who have NEVER driven a real vehicle, ANY vehicle, (i.e. if you are too young, or have no licence) how can you expect to understand the bounce?

Anyway, I've had my say.
All I can say is I have had experience of these situations (in real life), and although "the bounce" may be slightly exaggerated, the effect is pretty realistic.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

This is definitely a problem, not a result of realistic physics!

I managed to complete the invitational event at Spa in the Carrera because I guessed, as I've read here that there is a problem carrying over the physics of your current car to the Carrera.

My car was an RX-8 tuned to stage 3 and was fine on other races. When I did the invitational I got a lot of bouncing. I went to my garage and changed the tuning on my RX-8 and the response of the carrera changed, not enough to be driveable though!

What I did was go out and buy a tier 3 car (LP640 in my case). I didn't change the tuning at all and all of a sudden the Carrera was MUCH better at Spa - still a little bumpy through a couple of corners but to a manageable degree, except for corner 1 where you just have to take it very easy!

Hope that helps. In short, this is a bug - the videos people have posted prove this. It results from the physics of your currently selected car affecting the invitational car, and you can help it by making sure you're driving a car of a similar ilk in terms of performance (i.e. tier) rather than a modified lower tier car. At least this worked for me.

please fix this EA!

Day by day I search for an update for my PC version, day by day I'm disappointed.

I'm always reluctant to buy an EA title, and this just confirms it. How do I go about getting my money back?

Sigh. This game is rad, too bad it sucks because you can't play tier 4 cars and up. Very Very Frustrating! How was this missed in Beta?

Funny, when I watched "the stig" drive a Carrera Gt, Zonda R and countless other super cars on Top Gear, I didn't once see him "bounce" off the straights while going in a straight line!

Kindly remove your head from your rear and click the following links:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=nfs+shift+bounce

http://video.google.com/videosearch?pws=0&q=nfs%20shift%20bounce&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wv#

I drive my Saab quite hard around the ramps and even get the rear out a bit. Ya you'll get some bounce when the tires are on the limit but it's mild and the car is totally controllable.
Hi everyone,

I liked the game and I don't want this bouncing bug ruin the game playability. I have PC version of the game and the bouncing bug is somehow related to the car selected in your garage that you probably made tuning and upgrades. So the solution is just buy a standart car and dont change anything in it (mine is S3) and select it in your garage, then go the the special events where you drive cars from manufacturers. NO BOUNCING AT ALL.

I did not have bouncing problems that I tune and race, only the performance cars that are given to you have bouncing issue.

Hope this helps everyone who had this annoying problem.

Try it and give me your feedbacks
I have PC version of the game and the bouncing bug is somehow related to the car selected in your garage that you probably made tuning and upgrades
The problem is when you buy a new car, it should receive the default settings due to a "bug" it uses indeed the previous driven car settings
workaround: for every new bought/owned car, go to advanced tuning and press "C" then it gets the defaults for that car.
Result; you can now Tune this car, and the game will remember that car's setting.

You need to press "C" for all cars already have in your garage and re tune.
once done exit the game and restart.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

The next issue after the bouncing which has improved for most cars with a lot of tuning help from "renown tuning" by the way.... in the higher tier races the cars turn to mud on some tracks on some corners. I mean the driving turns surreal and somehow the speed seems to be there but the cars all go slow. It's actually quite funny 'cause the AI doesn't quite seem to know what's going on either. It's like a drug trip! There seems to be a lack of traction for everyone.
The next issue is the aggressive driving of the AI. I'm in the precision category but I like to trade paint and pass dirty too. The AI however seems to really want to take you out, you can watch as some of the cars try to spear you off the track at a rather sharp angle. It seems that a small tap by the AI easily sends you into the weeds but if I hit them as hard as I can not much happens mostly. Of course once I'm of track there is no steering whatsoever and it takes a long time to get back in contention, the AI can pass on the grass or gravel with ease. I understand that there is quite a bit less control in the grass as anyone who has watched cars in races such Brazil F1 in Interlagos this year go of track and fly out of control. Mildly hitting a guard rail at a shallow or grazing angle shouldn't keep you stuck for an eternity skidding and bouncing along.

Re:Bizarre bouncing issues or generally erratic behavior that makes the game completely unplayable

I have completed most of the game (level 50) and have pretty much stopped using works and super cars due to the bouncing and other unrealistic programing. I did find though that it would help to go to fine tuning section and soften up everything in the suspension. Where possible get rid of suspension option 3. The other problem is unrealistic programming. There is no team or competitor anywhere that would drive a million dollar car on a track with huge bumps just prior to the apex which takes place on several of the tracks. Unfortunately unlike Gran Tourismo the programmers are more centered on making a game than a driving simulator. The only thing they do better is the sounds. They are excellent with the exception in a few cars you can't hear the blip in the downshifts. The sounds and the opportunity to drive the real tracks are the only reason I will occasionally use this game. The list of required improvements is too long to add to this statement. If they are going to compete with GT5 then have a long way to go.
