hey umm i have 2 radeon 4870's 1gb quad amd phenom 8gb ram on win 7 64bit build 7100 and i gained a considerable amount of frames by doing the following. went to add/remove programs and uninstalled nvidia physx then i downloaded the newest version there is a link in a post above. installed it and i went from stuttery 17 fps to a smooth 40+. sometimes when i initiate a drift it will stutter a tiny bit but its only as annoying as grid weird slowmotionness sometimes. having more fun with the game now. huh how could ea not know about such a quick fix. and they give everyone no info. really lame anywho try doing that and see what happens. all i can think is that...well have you ever noticed that when a game that comes with nvidia physx installs nvidia physx there is no uninstaller run for the older version. did some poking around and i had 5 diff versions of nvidia physx installed. real sloppy on the part of nvidia. from now on when a game comes with it just make sure you manual uninstall it first.

You need to wait for the patch if you have an ati card. the reason. i only have a P4 3.2 no dual core and a ati4670 ddr3 512mb (wicked card for the price) i can play shift fine on my pc on most tracks untill i put more than a couple of ai cars on.

As soon as i select more cars the frame rate drops to nothing mostly on slow corners, the main thing is it seems no matter how i change the graphic options to different resolutions it makes hardly any difference to frame rates when it should make a lot of difference.

We need a patch for this buggy uncompleted game so i have shelfed it until it's fixed. not worth getting anoyed and frustrated over. started a swedish touring car championship instead.

I recently bought a Nvidia 9500GT on ebay for Batman Arkham Asylum, so I thought I'd spend 10 minutes to see if I could recreate any of the results in Shift posted further back on this thread.

Although the 9500 isn't the most powerful GPU, it triples my frame rate in Batman with PhysX effects on, so if it were to be adding to Shift I'd would expect it to make a noticable difference.

I didn't want to spend too long and didn't want to introduce my driving as a factor so I did the following.

I used Fraps to benchmark the first 30 seconds of a race at Spa. I started the benchmark as soon as the cars appeared on screen and did not drive away, meaning that the results of each of the 3 runs should be fairly similar. Each time when the benchmark was finished I'd pause the game and restart the race.

Hardware PhysX on.
Min Max Avg
25 45 34.77
25 45 35
25 45 35.33

Default one GPU
Min Max Avg
25 45 35.1
25 45 34.57
26 45 34.7

This was with all settings at medium, at 1280x720 with no AA.

As you can see in my short, narrow and relatively un-scientific test, having a Nvidia card with Hardware PhysX enabled makes absolutely no difference what so ever in Shift. This only proves what we already know, which is that Shift doesn't use "GPU PhysX".

I'd bet that the only reason other people have observed differences is that they were driving different laps, maybe some laps with more cars in front of them than others.

I still have a gut feeling that PhysX is one of the things holding the game back. I could be completely wrong and have no way of proving it, but the post above this, where Thompson_2009 reports problems when cars go around corners, to me acts as anecdotal evidence that it could be PhysX slowing things down.

But even thought we'll argue and debate what the problem is, we'll probably never know...

I CAN NOT PLAY THIS GAME for some f'ed up reason it's just artifacts and no one seems to have an answer for it. its only this game no other game whatsoever, crysis, fine, Flight sim X DX 10, fine, batman, fine, NFS shift unplayable due to artifacts what the hell I want my god damn money back for this piece of crap I wont pay for another NFS or EA game without trying it for free first.

there are no "solutions", thus the devs saying the patch was made to fix them (although ive only heard a few people with artifacting) these are just workarounds that some people have claimed that help but with no real evidence to support them. if there were solutions there wouldn't be thousands of people still waiting to play this game.

updating physx makes absolutely no difference for me. we must continue to wait... maybe another couple weeks.

I have an ATi 4870x2 and I get MAJOR frame loss (down to 15 FPS) almost every time I take a corner.. with Shadow detail to medium and motion blur to medium while everything else is at HIGH. 1680x1050

I can't believe this, it's ridiculous.. They don't even bother for ATi owners..

Does anyone know if they plan to release a HOTFiX or should I just forget about this game?

ROFL
Stunning... Amazing... its been almost 3 months and theres not even a miserable hint to get some decent patch.

They said: Makin' some patch its not as easy as you think, so I say, why in the hells have you released the game when making a fix takes you so freaking long?
Why? Because the product itself wasnt finished at the time it was released, otherwise, you'll get a fix in a couple of weeks.

THAT is what you get when you support this kinda companies: Nothing... period.

This game needs a service pack, not a patch.

Uninstalling this and reinstalling that will not make no difference to the over all game. i can change the graphic options to every setting there is and it makes no difference. Put more than two AI cars on the track with me and the frames drop to nothing. the more AI cars i add the slower the game gets.

It needs fixing. will have to wait.

Whats the problem here? lol

3hd4870 bla bla and you cant run the game?

Im using an OC HD4870512mb with a Q9550 and most of the tracks run perfect with game maxed out including AA at 8x.

Some tracks though run with bad fps..

I have this info....dont know if its real or not...
Some of the issues addressed in the next patch:

1. ATI frame rate issue

2. PS3 frame rate issue

3. Bouncing Car Issues

4. Upgraded online racers from 8 people to 12 people.
