Hi All,
I hope someone can help with the the following problem
I recently bought a new pc and installed windows vista 64 ultimate and trying to install Need for Speed Most Wanted Black Edition (NFSMW BE) and Need for Speed Underground (NFSU).

I can install each game one at a time and run it without issues however to get both of them installed and running together seems to be a problem

Problem
1. Install NFSMW BE
2. Install latest patch
3. Run game by inserting disk or by clicking on icon
4. Success

1. Try to install NFSU by inserting disk 1
2. Auto Run menu pops up.
3, Click on Autorun
4. Get the default screen for installing the game but missing the install option. The option to play is avaiable along with check for updates, web, readme, uninstall and quit
3. Ofcourse at this time NFSU is not installed and if I click on play it tries to start NFSMW BE and an Error screen pops up with caption "Need for Speed Most Wanted" message Please insert disk number 2

Basically when one game is installed the system things the other is installed too

Already tried
1. Opened tickets with EA support. Sorry to say but they have no clue. Typical copy paste responses.
2. Installed NFSMS BE first and then tried NFSU same problem
3. Installed NFSU first and then tried NFSMW BE same problem

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank and have a great rest of the day.

Regards,
Zeeshan

I remember this having to do something with both exe-files having the same name or something like that. I'm not sure if anyone figured out a workaround for this, but if they did, it can be googled!

Let us know, if you succeed in installing them both.

The problem is both games are named SPEED.EXE.

I usually install NFS Underground first. Then I run regedit and search for SPEED.EXE entries and rename or delete them. Then I install NFS Most Wanted. Hold shift down when you insert the Undergound disc, or you'll get an error message that it's the wrong cd for Most Wanted. If you get the error message, click cancel. Then run Undergroun from the start -> programs -> ... menu.

You could go through an rename the Underground versions of SPEED.EXE to SPEED1.EXE in the registry and in the game directory, but this won't solve the autolaunch issue when you insert the Underground cd, so I usually just delete the SPEED.EXE entries after installing Underground, but before installing Most Wanted. The registry entries are only used for auto-launch. The "shortcuts" include the full program path, so those aren't an issue.

Thanks, Jeff!

I knew someone knew how to do this.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks a lot for your time and answer. I am assuming you work for EA so please forgive me for being uncouth.

Why is the technical staff so bad in addressing technical questions? I have two tickets open for the issue highlighted in this thread and both techs provided absolutely useless information.

In the forums it's a totally different experience as I got the correct and useful answer in a day.

I can assure you that this reflects very poorly on EA and I would not be surprised if you are loosing loyal customers because of it.

I hope you take this as positive criticism and help the technical staff get their act together.

Hope everyone has an excellent weekend *smile*

Heck, I did something entirely different altogether (something that no one has posted yet):

1. I uninstalled Underground after backing up my files.
2. I then installed Most Wanted and the patch.
3. After MW installed, I went to REGEDIT, then to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE, then to Software/EA Games, then I deleted the registry keys under Underground that Most Wanted leaves for some reason.
4. Then, I could install Underground just fine - so I did.

Sure, MW's autorun doesn't work, but that's less irritating than if UG's autorun didn't because UG's autorun automatically starts the game and it'd be annoying if it tried to start the game and then gave me an "Insert the correct CD" message.

No,

he's just a dedicated Need for Speed fan, like I and Torque, except not a moderator here.

I just had the same problem. There's an easier way to go around the problem instead of editing registry files. Install either mw or ug1 first, and rename its speed.exe to whatever you want. then install the other game

Wont chage my signature until:
-EA announces NFS: Hot Pursuit 3
-EA annoucnes NFS: High Stakes 2
-EA Remakes old NFS titles/releases patches for them to work on new PCs

I did this method with one change - instead of deleting the registry key, I renamed it. I had Underground installed first so it was the Underground registry key. Then I happily installed Most Wanted BE without a hitch. After it was installed I went back to the registry and put the Underground key back to what it is supposed to be. Renaming, by the way is non-destructive if you leave the original name alone and just add something to the end of it, like Underground_EDITED - then you just erase the _EDITED part and the original is intact, so you don't make a mistake retyping the whole key name.

When I first came across this particular issue, I had already installed Most Wanted and wanted to play Underground as well.

To solve this, I had just copied the files off both discs into a directory on my hard drive and had no issues playing or patching Underground.

Takes a few minutes to copy over and is almost like installing it, but it worked.

How can you do this? Not a real comp person, but would love to play NFSU without having to uninstall MW
