I don't know if it's Win7 retail or missing drivers or what but this is a little weird:

When I was playing the game originally on Win7 RC x64, it was fine, well lower framerates, like ~40 single car, and ~25 when full grid, then installed the official Professional x64 version and *forgetting to backup save file... lvl 50, all corners, all clean races, all stars, etc.. sigh* then starting over again, game seems to run faster *~50 fps single and ~35 full grid*

but then problems starts:
there are occasional COMPLETE slowdowns... down to ~10fps, and game just lags... input lags, graphics lag, sound lags, everything... just becomes unplayable

checking the log on task manager's performance tab, and both CPU cores are at their max when this happens...

but after a few seconds, it comes back to normal again...

it happens most often when I hit the barrier or rather right before it does... it seemed to be a PhysX problem so I reinstalled the newest version, but same thing...

any ideas?

running on AMD athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 3600+ overclocked to ~2.4GHz
ATI Radeon HD4850 with 9.10 driver
4GB RAM
Win7 Pro Retail

it worked perfectly fine in the RC version...

Try manually update your device drivers, the ones in W7 are old

Braking for a corner takes time
not braking even more

the one driver that was actually quite "old" *from installing Driver Genius trial version... so it can't update it FOR me* is my motherboard's audio driver...

but when I inserted the CD, it told me it was for Vista or lower......... great........

almost gave up... when decided to put compatibility to vista SP3... and it installed =b

will see later if that was the problem...

quite possible, because every time you hit on the wall, there's the CRASH sound... and it just starts lagging like hell

okay... guess it's not the sound driver...

this is really weird

one temporary fix when it happens is ctrl+alt+del then select task manager... the screen will flicker to task manager window then back to the game by itself, but at full framerate this time...

o.O?!? I still don't even know WHY it's doing it
just know it's pushing my CPU to the limit... it's always at 95+% when game runs

did you try to put the CPU back to standard speed I seem to remember GMotor never liked OC's esp. if the game has euh glitches

Also perhaps start a new career as a new driver, to check if the saved game is broken..

this might help as well http://billmullins.blogspot.com/2009/10/optimize-win-7-and-vista-services-with.html

hmmm it could be that I put my resolution too high... 1600x1200 *i'm still using the old school CRT >.> really need a new monitor one of these days... maybe when I get my NEXT computer... probably in 2-3 years*

I lowered it to 1280x960 yesterday and it seemed to be much smoother... although, it DID slow down to ~20 from constant 40fps... but it never really got to the crawling stuttering lag like before...

also COULD be the sound problem too?!? because I just re-installed a new driver from another site... well actually i did a lot of things... so I really can't tell which really "fixed" it...

not even sure if it really DID fix it... just haven't played long enough to tell... but so far, when I crash onto walls, it doesn't lag at all...

HOWEVER... whenever I pass by the finish line, the game just STOPS... for like 3 seconds... everything stops... screen, audio, gameplay... then resumes after that... it's like a loading pause or something...

really weird...
