Use this thread for generic tips please.

If you have trouble with drifting, set the driving mode to casual, the game's auto-steering and auto-throttle/brake makes is seem that your driving with a different set of physics (or maybe the physics is changed). You only need to steer a bit, and you can hold the throttle down most of the time.

Seems that some of the stars are only possible if you lose a race. These include "clean lap" on the Nordschliefe sprint tracks (just 1 "lap"), and spin out 4 opponents.

If your car is bouncy, try running advanced setup, and set the fast rebound rates to max stiff. On the PC version, the Camaro has issues with some of the bouncy tracks.

Car ratings and peformance bars don't reflect the actual in game peformance of the cars. A works Mustang shows as 11.30, while a works Camaro shows as a 14.00. The Camaro has a bit more top speed, but lap times at Willow Springs only differ by about 1 second. A stage 3 Porsche Caymen S is a 13.50 (I haven't compared it yet).

For the cars I've upgraded, the upgrades increase power more than grip, resulting in a car where you have to go easy on the throttle, or use a higher gear if you use a manual tranny. The "works" cars seem to be better balanced between power and grip.

Great start to the topic.

My general advice,

1) Get a different car for different events + circuits
a) Twisty circuits - Lotus Elise
b) Drifts - Which ever balance that suit you
c) Time Attack - A Fast acceleration car, 4WD is my pick

2) Always always tune your car, this game is real and there is no one car fits all events

Here is a brief tuning guide, intended to help with handling adjustments:

Your car is generally oversteering:

1. Stiffen front springs & sway bars relative to rear/Soften rear springs & sway bars relative to front

2. Decrease rear tire pressure relative to front/Increase front tire pressure relative to rear

3. Increase rear negative camber relative to front/Decrease front camber relative to rear.

4. Add negative toe to the rear (or decrease postive toe if number is positive) [In the rear world, very few racecars use rear positive toe, as it generally increases throttle on oversteer where it is most unwanted (corner exit)]

5. Increase positive caster (steering wheel centers easier, adding stabilty to the car, but it becomes more difficult to turn the wheel as the wheel's inclination to center itself resists turning inputs.

6. Move brake balance forward.

7. Increase rear downforce relative to front/decrease front DF relative to rear (the higher your speed, the more effective aero components are, but obviously, they lower top speed (and high speed acceleration)

The reason I included the redundant concepts (i.e Increase front/Decrease rear): As the handling balance merely reflects which end of the car will lose traction first in a given situation, either end can be tuned to acheive a desirable balance. However, I always tune the problematic end whenever possible, as I'd rather increase mechanical grip.

Later on tonight, will add a General Understeer section if anyone is interested, as well as offer more specific situational tuning (i.e. corner entry underteer).

regards,

Henk

What about the best car for each tier and for NFS live tour events?

You can also adjust tuning on the easy set up (left and right) which gives you a more general but still good tune.

And theres strengths and weaknesses in each car, so just because you have a high rating does not mean it is a best suit for the track. Major example in this was with my m3 e92 on a tier 2 event (Alpental) i was by far the fastest, but the porsche cayman s was just too light and i couldnt catch him, i bought myself one and won the race with it being a lot slower than my old m3.

Severe addiction to speed. This game allows me to push it and not have to pay for any damage done!

I think I have a good general basic tips.

If/When you Upgrade the parts on your car, do not Immediately upgrade Engine and Trans Componets to make your car faster, because the Catchup AI will also automaticallty upgrade all vehicles under it's control to match your specs. However there are some upgrades you can make to your car that should not automatically cause the AI to be faster.

Upgrading the Brakes, Tires, and suspension (Without Upgrading the Engine. drivetrain, turbo, etc....) along with tuning Will still Improve your cars performance without causing the AI to speed up. These upgrades will allow your car(s) to take turns and corners better.

Personally I would Hold off Upgrading the Engine, Trans, Turbo for as long as possable as the handicapping will still keep your car competitive. If you feel that youy must upgrade 1 of these I would recomend Trans(Drivetrain). This should(Appears) give your car additional Top end without changing the Ai's Handicapping.

I hope this gemeral Info will help some folks.
