I am a professional computer technician, my PC is custom built and plays just about everything under the sun without any problems. Need for speed undercover crashes so hard i cant even get into the main menu. EA tech support has told me to delete my saved games and empty my temp files, both of which had zero help. using info from the forums i have attempted to run the game in compatibility mode, run as administrator, set processor affinity, run with the -safemode switch, reinstall directX, Upgrade every driver, reinstall the game, use a no cd hack. and even kill absolutely every un-necessary process before running the game. the game usually freezes in the intro movie but one time i was able to hit escape fast enough to get to the game menu, where it then crashed anyway. Need for speed is the ONLY game series i go buy the day it comes out and i own every one of them. this is the most problematic POS piece of software i have ever seen and the tech support has been useless. Definitely the last Need For Speed i pay money for, and frankly i want my money back
System Specs
Vista Ultimate SP1
AMD phenom x4 processor
8GB DDR RAM
Radeon X800GT
Xbox USB controller

the game is buggy and the suggestions by tech support doesn't fix the problem.
ive tried everything mentioned above , including disabling the soundcard

just got off phone w/ ea tech support i was told that they now know that a bad batch of games was shipped, they will install fine but wont run the game. They also said it seems to be games purchased at best buy and game stop, I was told a patch is in the works but they have no eta. tech support recommended either exchanging it thru the retailer until i get a good one or sending it back to ea for a good copy, why do i feel like im getting the run around? well at least we all learned an important lesson don't buy a new ea release until its been out long enough for all the bad copies to have been sent back.

i was finally able to barrow a friends old school ps/2 keyboard instead of my usb keyboard and apparently that was the problem all along w/out the usb keyboard the game runs fine, w/ usb keyboard crash everytime w/ the nfs.exe windows error. makes sense usb keyboards being such a radical new technology and all. well as an added bonus at least i can rest easy knowing that every single driver on my machine is updated. keep up the great work ea, and thanks for all the great tech support.

I have a Targa USB keyboard. So it's not all USB keyboards. Good to hear you fixed it.

the usb keyboard that would not work for me is a saitek eclipse running on generic windows drivers, just in case that info can help anyone. To anyone still knocking themselves out trying to get this thing to run don't bother, after playing it for a few days i gotta say its not that great of a game. it still has stuttering issues[ which i can live with] but the ai is pretty bad and the races and chases are way to easy. it just doesn't have the tension that better nfs titles have had.

"...I am a professional computer technician..."
Give me a break, anyone with bit knowledge about reverse engineering/asm can fix that error within 30 minutes (it takes around 15-20 minutes to load exe into database). Its fixable but illegal and no one who respects EA will release such thing for You, so all You can is wait EA to fix that issue and read those bullshits which people writes here.
Relax, its a matter of time and You wont get anything from whinning. Theres always possibility that something will fail, face it.
Best Regards.

wasted my money on NFS UC.
Maybe EA should spend less time creating 50 expasion packs for The Sims and spend some more time on Need for Speed.

Ok so I'd love to try the admin mode thing, but it's not giving me the option!?!?!
Just about every other game I have gives me the option to run in Admin mode, but the choice isn't there with a right-click, and if I open properties/advanced, the option is greyed out, with "run in separate memory" checked.
BTW the problem I'm having is like a lot of others, as soon as I choose a profile I get a generic Vista crash. I've never even seen the opening cinematic.
Another issue is my mouse cursor doesn't show up (logitech g5), so I can't access options or anything, just have to wait for the "press enter" message to show up to get to profiles.
All drivers are up to date. I've unistalled and reinstalled twice, even re-downloaded from D2D for the second re-install.
System:
Vista Premium x64
E8400 3.0 dual core
2x 8800gt in sli
3x 250gb hd in raid 5
Evga 780i mobo
4 gb sli-ready ddr800 dual channel

the only time nfs uc crashed for me was the transporter mission. so i did a bunch of other races, leveled up, and then tried the transporter mission again and was able to complete it. as for everybody else not even being able to play it, don't know what to tell you. took an act of congress to get mine to a playable state. i can play the game and i still want my money back. its not really that good of a game even without the bugs.

I just wanted to first off thank jerkface for his post as well as wag my finger at you idiots EA. Not one single time in the past 4 years has such a stupid problem existed. This Saitek keyboard has not only made typing and using the keyboard an ease over the past four years, it has stood up to my destructive nature which no other keyboard have I been able to use for more than a year. Not only that, but this amazing keyboard has NEVER BEEN THE ABSOLUTE CAUSE OF ME NOT BEING ABLE TO PLAY A GAME. After reading all of these posts trying to figure out why my beast of a computer couldn't manage to get past the main screen after you select a profile, the absolute dumbest problem in the world was that my keyboard was PLUGGED IN. Whether it is specifically the Saitek keyboard or any USB keyboard, it doesn't matter, the fact that a keyboard prevents me from playing your game is appalling to say the least.
Thank you for making my future game purchasing much clearer for me as after the problems I had with Red Alert coupled with this, I will never purchase another EA title.
