nfs.Thingriz wrote:I see Black Box everywhere in this game. The AI- unchanged. Exact same moves as everything that has ever come out of Black Box. With no discernable improvments whatsoever. Even the physic's is basically the same. It's still circle and rubber band. Slightly Mad just tightened it up a bit. Guess they couldn't do much with the drifting. Without four wheel independant physic's you just can't make a car feel right when drifting. So much depends on the differences between the front and rear of the car. It also shows up in the FFB- oh wait there is no FFB. It's just vibration. FFB has to come from the car to make it feel right, not the track.
They should be fixing small glitches with the patches after a game is released. Not bsic gameplay components. And certainly not menu items being backwards and such. Just proves the game was totally untested.
I would like to have seen them fix the motion blur in the cockpit when you have motion blur turned off. And the holes in the roofs. But that will never happen because they have to fix all this other stuff. I'm getting real tired of dusting EA NFS games.
I find it difficult to disagree with this assesment. Espically when I agree with just about everything that was said. Motionblur that cannot be turned off???? What were they thinking??? Or were they thinking at all when it came to this so called feature??? Also another thing is that EA probably Micro-Managed every step of the games devlopment. Which is probably why some folks would see blackbox all over it. I too was hoping that this would not be the typical roach motel infested NFS. guess I was an idiot to expect anything else.

Beyond my curiosity about where some of the quotes being posted here are coming from, especially when they're being attributed to specific members, I have to say that I've experienced the virtual office situation in the past and found it to be an excellent structure. Provided of course that everyone is invested in the end product by an equal, minimum amount that is greater than most standard offices. The Gamasutra article certainly offered up insight that I wouldn't have been able to put down in writing.
The Joystiq article discussing profits in comparison to last year worry me however. The numbers aren't what concerns me but denoting the second quarter to have already passed for 2010. When it's still 2009. Whether the second quarter comes before or after the third or fourth quarter, it's still 2009 and should be noted as such. And while I don't want to knock Joystiq, brethren of my much beloved Autoblog, I question a video game blog writing such a short article on finance, and not video games, without a source.
The Victoria Times Colonist does note in a sideways manner that EA would have lost less money had it not purchased Playfish. However admittedly Playfish does improve the likelyhood of pulling off the move towards a more dominate online presence.
I think the greatest question that arises is where is the proof from these articles that Need For Speed is going to suffer. EA has repeatedly said that it intends on pushing Need For Speed more, and that investing in what has obviously become a core series is necessary. Think of NFS as a blue chip company. While it's not necessarily going to make the best profit in comparison to it's cost. It'll always make enough to fund other smaller, and ocassionally more profitable, projects. Provided of course it's given it's share of attention. Which EA will be doing once again.

Just a couple of quick notes:
Black Box has not and will not be closing. We're developing NFS World two floors above where I sit.
Patch release date has just been announced: http://www.needforspeed.com/web/nfs-na/blogs/need-for-speed-news/-/nfsblogs/619056?_Blogs_WAR_globportlets_redirect=%2Fweb%2Fnfs-na%2Fblogs%2Fneed-for-speed-news&p_r_p_564233524_authorId=13007
FYI - The patch was developed at the same time as the Expansion pack so no effort was taken from the patch to create the free DLC.

UberSil. Really man, aren't the glaring glitches in this game proof enough that there is no joy in Mudville. EA is so disorganized at this time as to release steering control slider's backward's. How could you play this game for more than five minutes and not realize that. And holes in the roofs. And car's that won't race. And repeating level 37 3X. And reaching level 50 and getting nothing. And I can see how a bunch of people working in remote location's could lose very basic communication's. They proved this with this release. You want to work go to work! Oh wait, never mind. Your laid off. Good thing these guy's aren't Doctor's, they'd put your heart valve in backward's.
You know I keep hearing how EA want's to get out of the PC market- if they did they would. Long before any PS3 ever thought of playing Shift it was being written on a PC. The code is already done. These guy's are businessmen. If you believe all that crap about billion dollar losses you must work for the IRS. Nobody else could be that stupid. These guy's are making a killing. But they are also smart enough to realize that it's time to take the prize bull to market. The way I see these guy's operating in the last 5 year's smell's like a free for all upstair's. Let me get all I can before I abandon ship.

Thank God! This forum is finally usable. Best part of it, I can actually use the name I'm known as in other forums! How cool is that?
EA doesn't need to dedicate attention to NFS, because NFS is a name which sells by itself. Undercover was filled with unforgivable bugs, most of which weren't solved in the patch. Shift has crucial gameplay bugs which in a game that is advertised as a realistic driving experience (not simulation as the two aren't necessarily related) is just unconceivable. Nevertheless, they still made a profit from those titles.
I've been reading some of your recent posts here and it saddens me that you wander around blindly defending EA when most of the people who bought this game are having problems with it (me included though the bugs I've experienced aren't game-breaking). I won't condemn you for what you write but I can't resist the urge to state that when so many problems are occurring to so many people the last thing we need is someone to play the role of devil's advocate.

Don't even bother replying to UberTool... The reasons are obvious. He tries his best to sound and convince people he's "educated" but when you actually read his posts, it's just a bunch of nonsense, then when he's called out on the nonsense he resorts to personal attacks.

I would just like to quick say thanks again to VB for updating the Patch thread with the release date.
Although overall it was pretty unacceptable to have so many glitches in a game, I do appreciate the team working hard to correct all of the severe glitches so that us fans can enjoy this fun game again. Can't wait til Nov 23rd!!

I think his choice of naming me says it better than anything I can say.

That's one thing we can agree on.

It simply remains to be seen if the game is going to still CTD on turn 2 or if they've actually managed to make the game playable on rigs that are well above and beyond the minimum suggested. Another 2 weeks or so to find out, hmmmm seems like a really long time to add onto the time that people haven't been able to play the game since buying it, but I guess theres nothing to be done about that, they've got their plans layed out and are following them, be it Console first and eventually PC or whatever.
//Yeah, still a bit ticked that it crashes like a sloppy dog on vista for me.

VB Thanks for updating us! It is much appreciated... I know there are a lot of people that act like jackasses on here but it's good to hear things are happening. I look forward to the patch and hope it resolves a lot of issues. Furthermore I would hope that there are some upcoming improvements in the GUI, refinement in the usability and ease of doing things and finding/creating online matches.
I'm also quite glad to hear the DLC pack hasn't taken time out of our precious upcoming patch. BTW any consideration of adding more tracks or not really? That is quite a lot of work I imagine compared to adding a few cars.
Thanks again for the update!
