Oh I believe YOU, twearly, but just find it hard to believe that EA employ support staff that are stupid enough to tell people that. I mean it makes them look very bad if they're admitting that their games are not designed and tested properly for 64-bit operating systems.

Mind you, this isn't the first time I've seen someone saying that EA told them they don't test the games on 64-bit operating systems. I really hope it's just a case of the support staff being ignorant/misinformed and that that isn't true.

The game doesn't work at all for me in Vista SP2 64-bit though but it does work fine in 7 RC 64-bit (I'm dual-booting). Seeing as I'm moving up to 7 from Vista in a few weeks I'm hoping I'll be able to finally play the game without having to switch operating systems for one bloomin' game!!!

Same here. I've got 7 on order.

As you may remember, in an earlier post, I reported that I had 2 other EA games that didn't run.

Perhaps that e-mail and what you have heard explains it. As EA are fond of saying 'It's in the game'

I had same crashing out problem after a few yards driving.

The fix was to delete the graphicsconfig.xml file in myDocuments\NFS Shift

start game again and it worked fine even when i adjusted graphics settings.

All fine and dandy until, you have quit game and come back later, when you will get the crash again.

i noticed then that the graphicsconfig.xml file had been updated on quitting the game, date and time had changed.

Deleted it again and this time when i went in i did not alter default shadow setting (medium) after some mention or other here, although i adjusted all the other settings.

It has worked fine since and the graphicsconfig.xml file has not been updated since the settings were changed 3 days ago.

I have started, played and quit the game a number of times since then with no issues with crash outs, so as long as shadows setting is not altered from default it works fine, for me at least.

I renamed all those crap music files as well, the music in replays was driving me nuts, now i just hear the cars, bliss.

Hope this patch is along shortly to fix the other irritations.

EA. You have lost my trust.

Time to play a free game like TrackMania . - Well, until they actually make a good patch.

How come this is a new game and there's no support for Direct X 10?

The game works, yes. But I can't do anything to the settings to make it run faster.

This thread is awesome, cheers for the VITAL fix / info. This will probably be my first & last post. Only because EA is like a big giant turd.

And here's a list of EA contacts.

This is my first Racing game, and I'm very disapointed.
I purchased a Thrustmaster ferarri wheel for 150 dollars, and the game in itself for an additional.
The wheel took 2 weeks to arrive due to being on back order, while I waited patiently with the game installed for my gear.

Once all of the planets alligned I find this? I have complete one race at a time, and crash between loading screens. I don't get booted back out to windows, The PC as a whole flat out locks down, and does not recover. Must manualy power it down and back up.
When I return after the power cycle my volume is set to 0 each time.

Even more disapointing to see that there are no responses here from developers, with solutions or patch notification, or even acknowledgement of the known issue.

My first time to experience EA, and its not looking very promising so far.

Following my reaction to the first e-mail, I have had another bombshell from EA. Unless someone is having a joke.

Again, I quote in full -

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting EA.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you so far. But many game's has not been tested yet. We are working on this issue right now.

Is there anything else that you want to share with us

Sincerely,

Hope this helps!

I too had the game crashing out at the first corner, and if I made it past that, then it would start to crash as soon as I took control of the car.

The solution (and it's not for everyone obviously) was to install Windows 7 and then install Shift. For me (crosses fingers) so far, Need for Speed Shift is purring like a kitten in Windows 7. It still remains a buggy piece of cow pie in Vista 64 bit however for me.

While I like Shift, I don't love it, however it is the first game on the PC that has gotten me to switch operating system before I had originally planned to.

Personally, I wish they would have fixed it so that I could continue to run Vista, however it seems to me that since they sit smugly quiet on the issue that it's not likely to happen anytime soon. There suggestion that I run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode was useless for me, as was running it with all default settings, as was every other suggestion that EA made regarding the game crashing on Vista 64 bit.

I will however say thank you for the patch, because even on Windows 7 before the patch I was lucky to get (literally) 2 to 5 frames per second. This was tested on a quad core 2.2Ghz, 8GB system Ram, and tried both my old Nvidia 8800 and my new Nvidia GTX 275.

However, after the patch the game runs smoothly in the 20 to 50fps range, so the patch was good for something. It was truly unplayable prior to the patch even if it would have stayed crash free, it can't be played at 2 to 5 fps.

HI, I did post this seperatly but seems to of been deleted, so I will post here a fix.. This is on win 7 X64

I had the usual crash, windows has encounted an error etc.

I did 3 things, (it was 2 or 3 that actually fxed it I think)

1. Reduce your CPU OC
2. Update your DX runtimes, USE THIS LINK, NOT OTHERS. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=04ac064b-00d1-474e-b7b1-442d8712d553&displaylang=en
3. Make sure you disable, "No Execute Memory protect" in your systems bios.

THe crash report seems to link to memory issues so I checked a few settings, I then remembered enabling this before installing shift, I have since disabled it and it seems to work and have had 0 issues since. This bios option is meant to help stablity but it seems not in shift..

Hi! I've playing around with the settings and this worked for me "still no crash after two days"

1) complete uninstal and reinstal
2) start the game "english" and setting the controller on preset #28 and assigned all buttons
3) in graphics settings turned V-sync off "I don't know what it does so I won't see or notice the diferrence.
4) turned all setting on my video card to optimal performamce

and started palyng I hope it wasn't just luck!!

Vista Home Premium 64bit

Good luck for all that hasn't been able to play the game yet don't give up!!!
