I installed the new 191.03 beta drivers for my GTX 280 graphics card yesterday and enabled the Show PhysX Visual Indicator setting under the 3D Settings menu at the top (which only appears when you select Set PhysX Configuration by the way).

When I load the game, it crashes upon loading a race right after NVIDIA PhysX appears on-screen, suggesting that it is likely the cause of my crashes in Vista SP2 64-bit (even though it works fine in 7 RC 64-bit). I'm using the latest 9.09.0914 version of PhysX in both operating systems and the same beta drivers.

Hi all,

I had the same issue,
I found the next solution:

First install the game.
After installation, run the game and create an account.
Do NOT start Carreer.
Go to options, graphics.
Dont change resolution,
put all on Medium and the last one on High.
put V-sync Off.
Make sure that ur console is set for keyboard and mouse
Restart the game
Play carreer.

It worked for me!

Good Luck!

At last, i found the fix for everyone!

Put the disk back in the case, take it back to where you bought it, ask for a refund and/or exchange it for a completely different game... FIXED!

I was going to exchange for the 360 version, but i decided against this, as i would probably get a RROD considering the ammount of bugs and problems with the PC version.

EA should be ashamed releasing a game like this, it will certainly make me think twice before purchasing another EA game in the future. This happens too many times with EA, its just another nail in the coffin as far as im concerned.

I wish the rest of you good luck on getting this (i would say game, but its more like a bug with game rather than a game with bugs) fixed.

For me, I've a feeling the fix will come in three weeks time when Windows 7 launches as I have it pre-ordered and the RC I'm using now is the only operating system that will run the game with no issues. It crashes every time in Vista.

I doubt EA will have the issue sorted by then and I plan on doing an upgrade to 7 and replacing Vista completely thus negating the need to dual-boot like I am doing now. It's risky I know but all my experiences with 7 point to it being Vista SP3 anyway so hopefully I won't have any issues with the other games I have installed.

Why does this not surprise me? As a tester on Tiger 08, Madden 09 and Spore for the DS (before the info leak and "rebooting" of the development) as well as Need for Speed Pro Street, this is typical. The testers probably found this issue late in the project, were pushed to find a work around that third party would be happy with and did so, and the programmers said "alright, screw it, ship that sumbitch and let's be done with it." Happens all the time.

congrats EA. You disappoint us once again. Which is why I downloaded this game instead of buying it. If we stop giving these idiots our money maybe they'll fix these issues BEFORE shipping the product. I promise, we'd wait the extra month for the fix. Instead of having to sit here with a game we can't play while they try to figure out how to line their pockets and, if they have time, push out a patch. Bastards.

But let's not kid ourselves. To fix something, they would actually have to play their own game before releasing it. In my mind, all I can picture is: EA is a highschool kid that forgot about a test the night before. So he crams information best he can without real reassurance and just takes the test (produces a game). No time for group study or second opinion on his answers, it's just shoot and hope. I'll gladly shut up when I see a working patch (and hopefully not a month later). By that time I'll have moved on to Forza and long forgotten about this nightmare of a company.

cnc.Slapnut2448 wrote:Thanks to EArep Scarlett, my issue is fixed. She suggested if others are having this issue, drag the temp folder that is created in your My Documents folder to your desktop. It'll generate another when you create your profile upon entering the game, but it worked in my case. I hope this helps others too.

What "temp" folder? There is no "temp" folder in my documents folder, there is a NFS Shift folder which only has

a folder named "My Game" that which is the name that I gave to the save game, and the two xml files. Nothing else.

Edit: Okay, here is what I did. When I first ran the game I named my game "My Game" (without quotation marks) and the game crashed like everybody elses on the first right hand turn.

I looked for this magical "temp" folder but it was nowhere to be found, so I deleted the "My Game" folder instead which only holds the one saved game file.

I then restarted the game, and named it "game1" (again without quotation marks) and the game has worked so far. i've not gotten far into it, but I have replayed the test lap several times now and am now to the point where Im supposed to buy a car so.... Keeping my fingers crossed that it remains working as intended.

My system
AMD Quadcore 2.2GHz
Nvidia 8800
Windows Vista 64bit home premium
Xbox 360 wirless controller
Game patched to latest version as of the date of this post.

Now, let me also say that...

I just started a new game, gave it a name of Ridgeline (not that I think the name has anything to do with it), and sure as rice is white, right as I started to make the first corner the game bombed out and crashed to the desktop.

So, why is it that my first game (the My Game game) and this new saved game both crash out on the first corner of the test lap, yet my second attempt (the game1 game) still plays just fine. No settings have been changed yet one works and the other two didn't.

My suspicions are simple, maybe too simple but... I don't think it's that difficult to believe that when the game writes the data to the drive, it's writting corrupt data and this is causing the game to crash. I really can't come up with any other theories on it when one saved game will work fine and two others won't work fine.

Work around? If you had enough patience, keep deleting the saved game folder in the NFSS folder of the my documents folder and keep making new games until it allows you to get through the test lap and play the game. Done that already like 200 times, then I have no further suggestions. I only know that I must have gotten lucky and the second game that I created allows me to play (thus far, though I've probably jinxed myself now) without crashing while the other two saved games crashed to the desktop.

I believe there are enough people with this problem that it's going to take the developer to properly fix it. If they don't then EA owes us back our money.

Edit: Obviously Im just wrong or I just jinxed myself. Now the second game that I started (save name: game1) no longer runs without crashing.

Sigh! Where are the developers, are they not even addressing all the people that have this issue?

And so the search continues to try to play a game that I just shelled out 40.00 for.

I've tried using control setting 4 and the first time tried to play with the keyboard, as soon as I pressed the up arrow cursor to take off in a race the game crashed out.

I then restarted, and remapped all the controls of the keyboard control scheme (4) to my xbox controller, and entered the career mode race, as soon as the green light came up I pressed my A button and the game crashed out.

It NEEDS fixing and Im afraid that only the developers can do it, unfortunately Best Buy won't take it as a return since it's been opened already and I'm just a wee bit Teed off that the first patch didn't address this issue that is so apparent that it's the programing that is faulty here.

After a reminder, I got a response(?) from EA today. I have the wrong operating system.

I quote in full including the mangled English - "I understand your problem and I would like to inform you that there are many problem for windows vista 64 bit with some of the EA Games. I request you to please try the game running in vista 32 bit in its compatibility mode. Then you may be able to run the game better."

So, EA thought no one with 64 bit Vista would buy the game or perhaps they forgot it existed?

Perhaps they will be able to show me 'vista 32 bit compatibility mode'.

I think there are too many Fs in the game title.

What the...!?!?!?!?!?!? :/

The 64-bit version of Windows has been around since the XP days so it is not something new. With the increase in memory requirements in applications and games it's not uncommon for people to have 4 GB of RAM or more which means moving logically up to a 64-bit operating system unless you want to waste memory. Therefore EA should be testing all their games for maximum compatibility in both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems, particularly as the latter is likely to increase and the former decrease over the next few years.

I honestly cannot believe someone at EA told you that. I can only assume that it was the tea lady that sent that reply not one of their many talented and knowledgable staff because, of course, we know that EA are not that stupid?

Are they...?
