If you have changed your graphic settings, espcecially the shadow setting and the blur setting down, put them back where they were to begin with. I tried to turn off that stupid blur effect (I've been to 155 mph on my bike and not even IT blurs like that) because I find it pretty rediculous that you can't read your gauges at 120 mph. When I did that, the game started a bit laggy...but it would work until I went to start the race. It would be showing you sitting on the grid, then when it went to go into the cockpit it would crash every time.

I just put those settings back on high like they were and it solved the problem. For some reason, turning the graphics down or trying to get rid of the blur effect screws the game up completely.

I know...it sounds reverse of what it should be, but there you go.

I'm becoming a specialist on fixing bugs in NFS shift. (or should be shitf?). Shame on you, EA.
Thanks Parminio for the blur & shadow effects clue. This helped (I could almost complete one lap in the quick race!!)
Its hilarious, it shouldn't be called "graphics options", should be "bug options" as it works only with one type of setting.
But I still get "shift encountered an error and needs to be closed".
This smells to me a deadline run over, when a software is delivered before it becomes ready (stable).
Also this is called "test phase" in software engineering (if at least EA knows what software engineering is)
Very sad...
